Thanks for the feedback. I don't want my player deflecting any passes but to only go for interceptions.

Deflecting fuels intercepting. Without it, he won't intercept anything.

The most important skill for a ballhawk FS is the retirement button. http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/player/24627 is my attempt at one, and he's got 2 TOTAL interceptions in his career.

The biggest issue that build has is the choice to go with both zone and man awareness to high investments. If you drop one of those to minimum, you get the cov tech, deflection, etc points needed to make it a solid coverage safety.

The most important decision on any safety is determining whether to go with zone or man awareness. You can't afford to do both unless you're a superstar, and even then it's debatable if you should do both.

This is the most important consideration a defensive coordinator needs to make on a team early on. Pick a scheme that uses your safeties almost exclusively one way or the other. The FS is the easiest to go with pure zones since they get the Cover 1 assignments. But you can go man awareness focus with them too for a Man Base built roster. The SS is trickier and more limited since you're talking about going mostly Cover 2 over the top, or pretty much exclusively man awareness.

A defensive coordinator that wants 50/50 zone/man awareness on his safeties so he can mix it up at all times is simply going to have weaker safeties than the defensive coordinator that focus his defensive scheme on focus built safeties.

And frankly, Cover 2 shells can pretty much be replicated with the right M2M defensive playcalls getting you double coverage on the right offensive players.

If I'm building a safety from scratch right now without guidance from a defensive coordinator, I'm totally ignoring zone awareness and going 80+ man awareness/cov tech/deflection. Also really high pursuit. The decision making comes in when you decide how much to invest in each of INT vs Tackling vs Block Engagement skills, assuming that physicals and mentals need to be at certain thresholds. Personally, I like high investment in tackling over block engagement or interceptions.

Superstars have more freedom to pump stuff non-superstars can't afford to mess with.

My fumble forcing SS has two INT on the year. Try to figure that one out.
I'm starting to think that physical attributes are WAY more important than anything else.

I think ints have alot to do with putting yourself in a good position to make the int. Footwork and quickness are important.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I have been investing in zone defense but it seems like man defense is more important. Just added 10 Points to deflecting from the feedback I got here.

It depends on what type of scheme your DC runs, as far as man vs zone. I would invest in only one though.
