I was wondering if anyone has found a defense that consistently can stop the outside qb runs vs a total run team. I have tried the outside contain options and most anything i can think of but so far no luck. Invariably there are a number of plays where you LB takes a bad angle or gets caught up in the mess and then the qb is gone again. CBs are no help at this point as they cant get off the block of the blocking wrs very well.

First, CBs must, in the last couple of seasons, train some breaking block skills.
Then, did you try Zone formations?

Both of these. LBers & safeties need to be fast too, with high pursuit.
Def consistency wouldn't hurt.

Roll 2 and 2 Strong Corner Fire out of the Dime D 3-2-6 they are Zone Ds and are a easy 3 yard gain on HB dives. But out side stuff is contain more so then another D play I have seen and gives you a chance

5-2 zone defense called cat blitz 2 roll is probably the best default - there are others that can blow the play up more often based on builds
it's not perfect - but you can dedicate a cornerback or SS to the CB2 slot in the default depth chart setting and they will line up there in the 5-2, if you make them super run stoppers (like cornerlinebackers more than coverage guys) you will get your best results
it's tricky, you have to make sure that same guy isn't doing much of anything else since he's likely to be pretty bad in coverage if he's built to stop the sweep

Hmm, yes that's stopping the running game...but the QB did still have a 6.6 average.

Lol true, but the question was about QB not HB

Everyone in the league needs to get on this. The fact that a rushing QB took the OMVP title last season was almost entirely on the strength of how many TDs he got in the blowout wins.

I know lol rookie ball but just kinda sickening that 12 of the top 15 OMVP are QB...2 have more passing yards then rushing. 2 others have some passing but lot more rushing. So 8 have basically not even tried to pass.
