Trying to figure out how the salary cap will look next season and because I have a number of inactives to replace, I'm looking to see what I can afford for S* players and how to make up my roster. I know there are ways to do this with spreadsheets or something, but I'm not familiar enough with the cap changes as you progress from the various tiers.

Given this website and its database already hold all that information - it would be a swell user friendly feature to help cap management become easier. Basically I'd like to have it work so you can do "what if" scenarios. For example, if you open the tool, it could initially assume you will take your entire roster and show all their salaries and left over cap room for the next season and new tier.

There could be drop down lists to change the new contract from low, medium, high so that you can see what you can do. The current salary would be a field where you can type in the current contract of another player - perhaps one that you wish to sign in the offseason. You could then also select whether the current contract is low, medium, or high so that you get a good feeling of what the new contract will look like on your team next season. I think actually linking to the new player would be a cooler option but I assume making the current salary field open would be easier to do.

Anyhow, then you can just sort of see the impact of all transactions that you plan to make so that you can plan accordingly.

I understand this is not a major need and probably is a bigger undertaking than I can imagine. But like I said, it would be a user friendly type of feature so that monkeys like me who aren't cap gurus in GLB2 can figure out what we can afford to do in the offseasons and make roster decisions easier.

Yes please. I've got some changes planned for my team, and while I did run the numbers a few weeks ago, and they seemed to check out...something better than my own math would be nice.

The problem: Players get different salaries based on their traits. So it is not all about low, medium or high contracts.

Would be nice to have a drop down on the roster page.

Drop Down:
Salary Esimator:
Rookie
Soph
Seas
Journey
etc

That brings up a page like the "renew contracts" in mass page -- but you can choose low/med/high/cut -- and as you pick those -- there is a number at the top "ESTIMATED Salary Total Remaining" or something.

Yep I understand that...what I'm suggesting is it by default would assume you plan to take your entire team to the next tier. For instance you coach a couple of rookie clubs. Just to keep it simple, let's look at the DT's on the Redcoats http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/roster/1092

You have 3 DT's and based on Super star and other traits they make:

$320K
$145K
$130K

all of them are medium contracts. Well once you get to Sophomore, your cap number as well as their contract numbers will change. Your team salary cap will go from 7.25 Million up to 29.5 Million and all the players will bump up accordingly. So first off, what does that change look like? How much space will you have left?

Now if you want to replace one of those DT's...say this guy from the Giants http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/player/102516

He is on a high contract for $168K

I know I can click around enough and figure out how that $168K high contract equates back to a medium contract but that takes a lot of effort. So I'd like to be able to enter in a value of $168000 into a current roster spot and indicate that it is a high contract and then have the tool tell me how it looks next season's Salary cap at a medium contract.

TxSteve makes a good point about including the tiers because what if you want to save money by bringing in a rookie punter or something (?)

This stuff all can be figured out someway but its just time consuming and I think prone to errors if you are using your own math and spreadsheets. I really hate to commit to players and then find out I have to cut someone because my math didn't play out as I had hoped.

A Salary Cap Manager actually makes a ton of sense, even when building a rookie team. Sure, there are spreadsheets out there that allow you to plan teams that will fit under the rookie cap, but there's no guarantee those teams will remain under the cap through Veteran. Since planning plays a large role in a successful team, I don't see why users have to guess about whether their plan will work to completion.

The downside, I guess, is something like this would allow the min/max crowd to exploit the system. Of course, they're going to find a way to exploit the system with or without help.

I'll draw a sketch for this in a bit. I think I can visualize an easy-to-use UI for this.

Ok, check my sketch out (I srsly do ugly sketches like this for a living). New tab on the team page: Salary Projection

It gives a lot of the same information on the roster page, but with a tool for working out salary possibilities. Keeps it one season ahead so exploitation is just a smidge harder but it still gives a super useful/reasonable planning tool. It's not full control where a super complex stand alone tool is needed. Just something simple that works with current team rosters.

The Projected Deficit would show as either 'deficit' in red or swapped to 'surplus' in green. Projected Next Year Salary has a dropdown of either 'High, Medium, Low, or Cut'. When you change the dropdown, the deficit/surplus changes to accurately reflect things.

The page would also show a player's trait impact. And I didn't include it on the sketch, but a marker for a player with an expiring contract (a red E or the full expiring tag that is used on the roster page would be fine).
