So why are the playoff tiebreakers a state secret?
Up front: I am not all bent out of shape about missing the post-season with one team a three way tie at 11-3 someone deserving was going to miss out.
1. I think the current "Quest" for the best possible playoff team though, leads to some questions and while points scored versus points allowed can be a good indicator it is not clearly definitive. Two different leagues three way tie, one decided on Points Allowed on decided on H2H after the division winner is determined ; how is this possible?
http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/league/2 (Here apparently Dakota has lost a 3-way tie based on points allowed for the wild card, though owns H2H against the wild card team)
Points Allowed: Music City (257), Dakota (257), Warsaw Wrath (322)
Logical Question: How are the Warsaw Wrath the division winner here? Shouldn't it be Music City they are 1 to 1 Head to Head, if so shouldn't the Wrath be the wild card? Also if Warsaw is the division winner, how does Dakota who beat Music City Head to Head not advance?
http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/league/55 (Here VS was a loser on points allowed, but became the wild card in a three way race due to H2H)
Points Allowed: Alpine (237), Texas A&M (266), VS (299) How is Texas A&M the winner of this division? If Texas A&M is the Division winner how does VS advance except by head to head record here?
2. I get your quest for the "Best Team" but (Just like the NFL and College) sometimes the best teams don't win; I recommend you use this (posted yesterday before all this got decided):
[Two Way Tie]
1. Head 2 Head (A two game sweep should make the difference)
2. Net Differential in Head to Head Games (IE one team got blown out in the loss, the other squeaked by in a win)
3. Points Allowed
4. Points Scored
5. Coin Flip
[Three or more Way Tie]
1. Division Record (I'd include head to head domination but that would be automatic with division record IE 4-2 minimum)
2. Points Allowed
3. Points Scored
....Until only 2 teams remain then run two way head to head
Wild Card:
[Two Way Tie]
1. Head to Head
2. Quality Wins (A count of the number of victories against teams with 10 or more wins)
3. Points Allowed
4. Points Scored
5. Coin Flip
[Three or more way tie]
1. Quality Wins (To expound: This gives teams in stronger divisions a slight leg up while not penalizing teams for having one 0-14 team in their division as Strength of Schedule would do)
2. Points Allowed
3. Points Scored
.... Until only 2 teams remain then use the two way head to head
3. Post the Playoff Tiebreakers in an FAQ somewhere and stick to them.
