In plays like that http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/99835/2317760 first step fires a long time before the return starts. What happens with the acceleration boost? Does it fire, when the player starts moving, or do you lose the bonus?

I've wondered that too - as even when it fires - I've not seen a noticeable increase in speed. You would think it would be fairly easy to see since the returner is reasonably close to the wedge...and should be gaining.

I've also seen it fire on blockers on my wedge -- and don't notice a significant different in their speed since they stay right in formation without getting ahead at all.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that first step is a wasted investment on a strict returner. It fires at the wrong times to be useful.

First Step seems useful on Returners for when they get caught in a midst of blockers and stop, then manage to get through them. I've seen many return TD's start out that way.

Noob question I'm sure but how can you tell when a special ability fires?

Click the little settings icon when watching a replay and there's an option to show special abilities.

Id like to know why it never triggers again after the initial proc has worn off.

It can.

http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/98140/1756969 - first step fires at snap, and again at moment of the catch.

(also, makes a pretty good case for "why bother with CiS?")

Seems like it might be worthwhile (based on my observations) if first step duration is ".5 to .8 seconds starting at the first step they take" - perhaps that is the issue with kick off returns?

That balance thingy for CIS is important for screens.

Most Screens are caught at a standstill, or at the very least are going to have you reverse field, which will put you momentarily at a standstill. I'd argue first step is more valuable on screens than CiS.

To get CiS to fire reliably, you're going to invest really high in balance. If you've invested really high in balance, then you don't exactly have much use for the "auto-balance-pass" aspect of CiS. You're more after the sprinting, quickness, and footwork.

Frankly, I think CiS is the most overrated receiver skill by far. Soooooooo many people take it, and take it first. It doesn't do jack if you're catching in coverage and getting immediately tackled. And why take it first? It's not like you're going to take balance anywhere near 60 rookie or sophomore season. So many other waaaay more important receiving skills.

Yep. There's few reasons not to take Head Fake, Prime Time and 1st Step on WR.

But I would take prime time only to silver. You dont get a higher activation chance from silver to gold, which makes gold prime time kind of dull.
