Coverage Technique - "The ability to keep up with the receiver when he makes cuts and changes direction"

Is this skill used when playing zone defense? The player covers a zone, not a man. Unless it's like a match-up zone.

I would say he covers a player in the zone, not the zone itself. My RL LB coach always told us: "We dont cover empty space!".

It boils down to this, the moment the zone defender identifies and starts pursuing a pass target through his zone, his pathing is guided by coverage technique.

Hell...it might be better to give my CBs low Cov Tech just so they won't leave the WR streaking and take the HB coming out of the back field. I can't tell you have many times a WR catches a ball between my CB and safety because my CB leaves the WR, to take the HB, before the safety has time to roll over.

Does cov tech determine "when" the DB sees the guy entering his zone and starts running towards him?

I thought that was Zone Awareness.

Thanks...guess my idea won't work cause I'm not reducing my zone awareness because that helps with run defense.
