So we can use those freaking Off Tackle runs that are hard to call more reliably...majority of the short yardage runs aren't nearly as effective anyways.

Yes, in these situations I run between the tackles, in these situations I run outside the tackles, and in this situation I run away from the tackles.

I agree. I've suggested before to allow "off tackle" to go anywhere (inside/outside/very short) - but I think it just isn't a big deal to most folks.

In that vein though - why not just let any run go anywhere (like passes do)?

Typically speaking run plays have no real yardage guidelines or shouldnt. Every potential yardage situation is capable of being a run and therefore shouldnt be limited. Ive seen NFL 3rd and 20+ run plays for positioning of punts with the occasional breakout first down. Run plays shouldnt be limited.

In GLB terms though, this means my "Run Very Short" package becomes my "Outside run left" package, and my "Outside run" package becomes my "Outside run right" package.

I then setup my tactics to alternate these two packages on 1st 2nd 3rd downs, allowing me to guarantee runs to the wide side of the field on second and third down.

Or other such shenanigans. So there are some pitfalls potentially. Or "better control of the offense", as some might label it

And abuse of sim mechanics doesnt already happen? Like it didnt happen in Classic? At that stage it is up to the coders to eliminate the abuse by creating functionality within the sim to allow defenses to react or whatever needs to be done to avoid abuse.

Lots of people will probably say make better builds. Thats fine and dandy and in some cases is the logical way however, if teh sim is coded to allow exploit/abuse then make better dots isnt the answer...first.

Run very short should just be taken out.

I mean, if it applied to specific plays like QB sneaks or FB dives or something, I wouldn't have a problem with it... but if running inside is taken and running outside is taken, which direction are you running on the third option? Run backwards?

This would make more sense. Thanks, OP updated.

You can manually make this happen. Just never user Run Very Short in your tactics. Use Goalline in your Outside and Inside runs. It's actually better the way it is currently setup because you can narrow your goalline runs down to specific tactic.

Adding a playbook for off tackle runs would be great, removing the "run very short" playbook would not be. Being stuck with only one group of inside runs to call for all downs and distances would be a noticeable nerf to the inside run game which is already pretty limited.

There are plenty of off tackle runs that don't fit in my ISrun PB and are too risky for my OSrun PB. GL OT runs are okay, but for my all rushing team I need to utilize the majority of formations in order to keep my opponent off balance.

I have only used Inside Run for my teams and have not needed Very Short. We are consistently among the top rushing teams in Sophmore because I know that the best 1st down inside running plays are the same plays you would want to call on 3rd and short.

That all depends on whether your opponent is calling the same defenses on each down and distances, some people change it up. (We aren't too shabby at running the ball ourselves

No, you guys aren't. I guess I just haven't gotten to that level of understanding of the running game. Every time I call a short yardage ISrun it gets stuffed for no gain it seems.

Me too -- taking away a playbook would hurt.

I'd love to see off tackle either in its own book (which sadly would require a total revamp of everything probably including the tactics pages) -- or

I'd love to see it so Off Tackle runs could be included as an inside run (since that is what they are too me anyway - and that is what I consider them for defensive purposes)
