So I am 9-3 and digging for more.
First of all I want to apologize to iain35 and his Las Vegas Vipers. I didn’t want do make the agent or the team look like they use illegal or taboo tactics. A couple of seasons ago (season 3 or 4) it was impossible to stop QB runs out of the GL formation. The admins had to step in and nerf outside blocking. That’s why seeing a team using a QB almost solely to run out of the GL formation made me think of these times and I had to call them out and make some fun.
But now lets get started and go right back to the Las Vegas Vipers!
Game of the Week
Las Vegas Vipers (3-2) vs. Boston Redcoats (5-0)
Matchup: http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/compare_teams/1099/1092
Las Vegas made it back to over .500 without any cheese (last time, I promise ). They are now one game behind in the division race in Gamma and have a good chance to snatch the wildcard spot. Now they face the undefeated Recoats, who were able to beat the Assassins in a very close game.
The Vipers are successful passing the ball behind a QB tandem, which is dominated by Rodney Ruxin. Las Vegas spreads their receptions very well. Right now, no receiver is over 200 yards and there are 6 receivers with 100+ receiving yards. Las Vegas has some trouble finding the endzone, they have only scored 5 TDs in 5 games. Boston on the other hand has scored 12 times, mostly on the ground. The ground attack is led by QB Vito "Babe" Parilli. FB Jim Nance and HB Woody Danhead are other contributors running the ball. Both teams field solid defensive squads. Las Vegas has some troubles defending the run, but they do a good job against the pass. Boston is brutal blitzing the QB. But they are also very able to defend the run.
My prediction: There is no sign for an upset. But never underestimate the anger of a Viper. Still, everything besides a Boston win would be surprising. Boston wins.
Result: 9-7 Las Vegas
Flying Spaghetti Monsters (3-2) vs. Blue Mountain State Goats (2-3)
Matchup: http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/compare_teams/1101/1090
The Monsters sit at 3-2 and are tied for the second position in Gamma. They were able to beat North Texas in “a snooze fest” (see quote from Absolute Zero, in the game 5 write up) in overtime with a FG that was the only score of the game. The Goats also played in close one, losing on two FGs by Traverse City.
The Monsters run a balanced offense that shares pass and run by 2:1. Their passing attack is led by their only QB, Keon Martin, while HBs Sergio Pierre and Forest Gump do the most work on the ground. The Goats are the leading passing team in the league, which shows, that passing is really difficult at rookie ball. Currently their passing comes from QBs Gun Slinger and ImmaRunner NottaFighter. They balance their receiving targets, with 5 players over 100 receiving yards, but no player over 200. TE Jimmy Gronk is the only receiver, who caught a TD (2) this far for the Goats. Defensively both teams struggle a bit. The Monsters are able to put some pressure on the opposing QB and forced a boatload of fumbles (10). The Goats couldn’t find the QB that often and also are not that dangerous when it comes to forcing turnovers in any way.
My prediction: The Monsters are the better team looking at the stats. The Monsters win.
Result: 3-0 Monsters
North Texas Mean Greens (2-3) vs. Oakland Outlaws (1-4)
Matchup: http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/compare_teams/1095/1091
North Texas has lost a heart breaker in OT to go under .500 in their last league game. North Texas has lost games by 1, 3 and 7 points. Oakland got shut out the last time and the time before and the time before that. They now wait for 15 quarters to score a point.
North Texas does a decent job throwing the ball, but got intercepted twice already. QB Caesar Gonzalez leads the league in TD passes, but is also tied for second place in interceptions thrown. Receiving-wise WR Colin Patterson leads the way with 300+ receiving yards and 3 receiving TDs. Oakland hasn’t done a good job on offense or defense, which is probably really tough with a lot of CPU players and no coordinators. Just fight through the season and snatch some of the players from folding teams next season.
My prediction: North Texas wins and gets back to .500. Maybe Oakland can find a way to score their first points in 3 games.
Result: 10-0 North Texas
Kansas City Chaos (2-3) vs. New Jersey Blaze (0-5)
Matchup: http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/compare_teams/1094/1093
Kansas City looks pretty good looking at their roster, but their performance wasn’t that great so far. They came away with two close wins, but couldn’t score against Las Vegas. New Jersey has scored in every league game with a team consisting of only 6 human players. That’s pretty impressive to me. Still they are winless this far.
Kansas City has the weakest offense in the league. They actually only scored one TD so far, coming from a player, who is no longer with the team. That means, there is no player on their team that has scored a TD in league games. The Kansas City defense does a beter job. They did well against the run but also struggled against the pass. What to say about New Jersey? They overperform on offense (hard to say that on a 0-5 team, but with only a handful of human players they put up really good numbers). On defense they do what you expect from a CPU loaded team, they don’t defend well.
My prediction: Kansas City has to step it up, especially on offense. But against the only winless team in the league they should be able to come up with some points and win it. Kansas City wins, but it could get closer than it should be.
Result: 2-0 New Jersey (really, 2-0)
Busan Giants (3-2) vs. Louisiana ASSassins (4-1)
Matchup: http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/compare_teams/1096/1098
The Giants are back on track, after losing two in a row and giving away a great postion in their division. Now they face a team, which just lost its first game of the season in a very exciting fashion.
This is a battle of philosophies. The Giants are over 1000 passing yards behind their QB tandem of Howard Knowles and Rogelio Levine and 6 receivers over 100 yards. Louisiana is the only team over 1000 rushing yards. Only the two HBs run the ball, S* Tyrone Wang and Issac McKnight. On defense the picture changes. The Giants are really bad at stopping the pass and only average when it comes to stop the run. Louisiana on the other hand is really good defending the pass. The matchup lists them as the 3rd worst team defending the run. But 411 out of 622 yards they gave up against the run came in one game. So these numbers are misleading a bit. They actually are pretty good defending the run.
My prediction: Louisiana will bounce back and win.
Result: 24-3 Louisiana
Draco Dragons (3-2) vs. Traverse City Voltage (2-3)
Matchup: http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/compare_teams/1097/1100
Draco is tied for the division lead in Beta. All three of their wins came in shut outs, while losing two games by a combined difference of 10. Traverse City was able to beat a team with a better record last game (just as I predicted). They only played in low scoring games this far a 7-14 defeat to Louisiana being the game with the most combined points scored.
Draco fields a balanced offense, with passes by QBs Garett Strange and Mallet Dragons. They have two WRs over 200 yards, Dane Dawkins and Jealous Jones, while Merry Longlegs, another WR, leads the team with 3 receiving TDs. Rushing is done by HBs TooHot2Hold TooMuch2Handle and Mirky Montgomery. Traverse City likes to run a lot, not even cracking the 300 passing yard mark. That explains their low scoring games. The only rusher, who is over 2.5 yards per run is Aron Lawson. I won’t watch all of their games, but I guess I would see a lot of inside runs… Am I right? Defensively the strengthes and weaknesses are clear. Draco cant defend the pass very well, but is lethal against the run and allow only very few points. Traverse City is doing an average job. They are better against the run.
My prediction: The best rushing defense against a team that runs a lot, but not really great… Not hard to guess. Draco wins.
Result: 20-0 Draco
