If you bought 0 normal skill point boosts, end of the coming season. Every player gets on free season at max level.
If you bought all the skill point boosts, two seasons from now. Every skill boost gives you 2 games, and completing the set gives you an extra 18 games as a bonus on top of it.

Anyone know if there's any sort of alert or anything to warn you that your career is coming to an end so you know you have to use the boosts?

If you look at the number of games above the Legends bar, you will see how many games you have left. You will have to refresh after boosting.
