So taking over as DC for a team and I prefer to run the 3-4. Looking at our roster we have a big space eating I want to play at NT, then another DT who is much quicker and would be better suited playing DE in a 3-man front.

When I went to re-order the depth chart though it appears that DT's can only be inserted in the DT and NT spots, making it pretty well impossible to give 4-5 DT's ample playing time if you want to run a 3-4 base

Same can be said for not being able to play a smaller pass-rushing DE as a 3-4 blitzing OLB, where we're only allowed to put natural LB's and Safeties.

This is something I (along with many other DC's) liked to do in the old GLB, and I was just wondering if it would be possible to integrate, or if I'm just missing something?

Thanks!

This is how it is intended to be. If you want to run a base 3-4 then it seems like the best choice is to only go with 2 DTs and add an extra LB to your roster (relative to what you would need for a 40 front base D). Doesn't really work like it does in real life with DT/DE and DE/OLB hybrid players and positions.

Yeah I understand that, it was just convenient having the option in the old game to sacrifice a small OOP penalty for those hybrid type players. The team I got brought onto already has a full roster, but due to this limitation (and a surplus of DT's) I am pretty well forced to play a 4 man front most of the time.

Not a huge deal, would just be nice to have that flexibility.

DTs also cost less than DEs, both salary and flex costs. If they could play DE with no issue then it kind of puts DEs in a bad spot.

Didn't really consider that. Perhaps there could be an OOP penalty to the player's non-physical stats (specifically pass rushing and defense)? Then this penalty could be more or less depending on how reasonable the position change is...so a pass rushing DE would be penalized less for playing as a blitzing 3-4 ROLB, while a bigger run stuffing DE would be penalized more for playing as a 4-3 LMB, despite both switches being DE --> LB.

Another option could be to have a "Tweener" trait upon player creation, that lessens this potential penalty?

This assuming you wouldn't want to even out the costs of the two positions at all.
