Too damn quiet around this age level....

7/9 Games

#1 Minnesota Stunners (97) vs #7 Gatling Valley Pirates (111)

Minnesota has won the ladder 2 times now, and looking for their 3rd. They have yet to face the Pirates and this basically is a shootout of the one man teams. Both teams are owned and ran by a single owner. Pirates tend to focus more on a balanced game, and to no surprise to anyone the Stunners are a pure smash mouth team. Everyone knows they are going to run, but they dare you to stop them.

Stunners win 24-17

#2 Victorious Secret (99) vs #21 (JOR) Richmond Redskins (79)

Victorious just took down Alpine in their league game to set themselves up with a big matchup against a Journeyman team who has 20 spots on them in the overall ranking, but can a season of points make the difference at this level? Both play balanced offensively but I think it will come down to late game heroics by the Victorious Secret to steal this game away from the Redskins.

The Secret are victorious by 21-20

#3 D'Haran Empire (104) vs #12 Dryden Blue Balls (118)

The Empire and Dryden have yet to face off in ladder play. This game will pose polar opposites against each other. The Blue Balls are more of a spread/aerial attack where the Empire will rely on the ground game with the HB and QB rushes. Can Dryden contain Mr. Grounden Pound to limit the damage he will do?

Empire wins 28-20

#4 1995 Nebraska Cornhuskers (106) vs #40 (JOR) Seattle Piranhas (114)

Cornhuskers are another lucky Seasoned team that gets to face off against a Journeyman team. The Cornhuskers are going to have to rely on their strengths to get through this one. If they control the line of scrimmage and get up early they should be able to contain any counter attack the Piranhas want to throw at them and cruise to a victory.

Cornhuskers win 35-24

#5 Philadelphia Continentals (107) vs #14 Rare Breed Rookies (124)

Another game where these 2 teams have never matched up against each other. At least we are getting some variety for once. Continentals rode last season on a high and are looking strong yet again this season. The Rookies though dropped a few games at the tail of last season and lost their first matchup this season to a much lesser talented team. I would believe this plays on their confidence and will be the demise in the end.

Continentals win 24-10

#6 Alpine Affineurs (109) vs #27 (JOR) Grass Valley Tunnel Trolls (89)

Alpine has one of the tougher Journeyman matchups with this one. After losing to Victorious in league play will they change things up or leave things be? Alpine will have to bring their A game to stop the Trolls but I feel the seasons worth of points and play styles will cause the Alpine to struggle here.

Trolls win 17-14

#8 Tampa Bay Tuskenraiders (112) vs #10 Compton Con Men (116)

Finally a matchup to review a past with. Last season Tampa and Compton squared off where Tampa won by 10 points. But I put no weight in that considering both teams like to toss the pigskin around to say the least. To quote Mr. John Madden "Usually the team that scores the most points wins the game." This will be a shootout and who has it last will decide the game.

Compton wins 38-35

#9 Drinkin Hellraisers (115) vs #38 (JOR) Falkirk Wheelies (110)

Drinkin is another unlucky team that matches up with a Journeyman team. Drinkin has shown they can advance the ball down the field and score quickly but usually their faults are on defense. Falkirk is more of a middle road team that just doesn't particularly do one thing exceptionally well, but play more a balanced game. Drinkin will need to strike early and force the hand of the Wheelies to play from behind.

Drinkin wins 24-17

Thanks Stobie! You are awesome!

On the Victorious matchup - I played teams a level up almost the entire season last season - I'd have had zero chance against a team 20 spots ahead. Now that we're seasoned though - perhaps points are spread around a little broader...and the skill differences aren't as dramatic as they were last season? I think that is possible but as GREAT as I think Victorious is - I'll be surprised if they can overcome 20 spots.

Same with Alpine and the trolls. The Trolls slaughtered me twice last season - I didn't have a chance against them because of the point differential. Can't wait to see if the playing field is leveling (since in major skills; 10K points is now only 7-8 points in a skill - maybe we are at a place where well built can overcome average builds).

Rare Breed: in our league forum - I think the owner said he'd been out of town and hadn't spent his 10K points before the game which would explain the surprising loss.

I just did a lol scrim against Falkrik Wheelies and smoked them.

I am curious if it is all dependent on your type of play. For instance in a rush attack you are dependent on the dominance of blocking and against even level teams that will be the case, but higher level teams might cause an issue due to points difference. Passing in that scrim looked pretty easy against that team, and there could be many things that contributed to that, but could passing give lesser of a 'need' to be close in points.

Should be interesting to say the least.

GG DBD. Didn't know the Empire would score this many times but we were happy to take the W. I am sure we will see you guys around.

As of ~2:30pm central:

Stunners 35 - 0 Gatling Valley (stobie said 24-17)

Victorious Secret 7 - 24 Richmond Redskins (Stobie picked VS 21-20)
This looked like a good game plan VS but just stalled after that first drive. I wonder if your all passing offense would have done better - you seemed to be making catches and protecting the QB when necessary

D'Haran 56 - 24 Dryden (stobie picked D'H 28-20)

Alpine 24 - 34 Trolls (stobie picked trolls 17-14)

Drinkin 24 - 28 Falkirk (stobie picked Drinkin 24-17)

yeah...it's so weird I thought the gap between xp tiers was significant but some rando (30something ranked) journeyman team scrimmed compton yesterday and we beat em by 20

Lolsim we lost by 4 but were in it possibly to win. Just a late turnover deep in our side hurt

yeah, I'm not trying to insinuate that we'd beat the same team if we'd scrim a second time, just that I've been under the impression this entire time that there was a huge gap from one xp tier to the next and that a lower tier team wouldn't stand a chance.

Tampa sneaks the win against Compton; almost predicted the score but didn't get the right team Stobie! (37-35) Unlucky for Compton to miss all 3 field goals.
