Hey CD - I was just wondering if you could comment on something that I see on a semi-regular basis that involves defensive players just appearing to run right through ball carriers on some plays. Example here with the FS -
http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/76052/3463875

This is not a game is broken bitch thread - I just was curious if you can tell us what is the sequence of events that happen from the FS's perspective on this play.

What I see is initially he backpedals into his zone - then reads the run play and moves forward to engage the ball carrier. But what happens that he just blows right through him? Is that some failed awareness check? And I get that he recovers - somehow - to make the tackle, but often times the d players just go through some opposing player and keep going.

Just wondering what is happening here, and figure you know as well as anyone.

This is a build problem.

And fwiw, I put this in the 'admins don't tell us how the sim works, leave it to users to figure it out' category that we requested from back in alpha stages.

Build problem. Got it.

Next time if you can't offer any helpful input please just consider not posting at all. I would appreciate it.

That is helpful input. Your players are most likely lacking on a certain attribute or just got very unlucky in a diceroll.

Everything in the game is build related, so not really any helpful hint at all. What I was curious about has more to do with the way the rolls work in this case. If a defender passes a roll to see if he recognizes the play, what is the sequence after that? Does he have to pass additional rolls every x amount of tics to see if he still recognizes the play? Additional rolls to see if he knows who the ball carrier is? If that's the case does he have to make that roll over and over as he gets closer to the ball carrier? Obviously at some point he knows what is going on, then at some point he doesn't, then he does again. The ball carrier did not make any fake, juke etc, the FS just runs past him, so this is an apparent failure on the part of the defender. Does every player have to pass some sort of awareness check every tic, or x number of tics of every play?

There are always awareness checks going on and it just looks as though he happens to miss his there originally. Could also be balance or tackle tech issues.

Doubt you get an answer that you are really looking for though.

I'd put that as a combination of a bad angle (pursuit), combined with an elusive HB (rusher + quick feet + slippery) making a cut at the exact correct time. He shook your guy just enough to get around him.

This, to me, is a lot of of "HB being good at what he does" than anyone else is giving credit for.

I get what your saying but if there is any kind of elusive move in there I can't see it. Maybe that's part of it - elusive moves are not always apparent in the sim.

I think this is definitely true - the description for the Juke SA talks about "all elusive running rolls", which implies to me that there are more elusive moves than Juke and Spin. A smaller sidestep or hesitation move could be what's going on here.

Use the replay slider to slowly go through the moment the tackle is missed. Watch the HB.
