How are all-stars selected? How do you know you're selected?

Curious because I got a few awards including special teams MVP on my return guy (different league) and he wasn't on the team.

From what I understand (which is very little really), the Top so many players at each position (I would think it varies according to number of players required at the position) are thrown in a pool and randomly selected from there.

There is no alert or way of knowing accept the link on the league page as the game approaches and the link to the game after the sim.
