Or is it just that player height / weight play such a huge factor that pumping attributes can't prevent it?

I think there is a minimum percentage for every event to happen. So even if you have a 100 carrying grip you will see fumbles, when getting tackled by a defender with base power tackling, strip tech etc. Even a QB with 100 pass accuracy, 100 pass technique will see drops, if he throws to a wide open WR, who has 100 receiving hands. There is bottom line probability for every roll, I am very sure. So pumping points into a skill makes only sense till you hit the bottom line for a specific roll. Problem is, we dont know where that bottom line is.
- my two cents

For every team I work on the HB's and FB's that fumble the most, by a fairly wide margin, are the dots with the highest Carry Grip - sometimes substantially higher.

I have considered that they also tend to have higher balance, so they don't go down as fast which may be a factor also. Would be a shame if higher balance lead to increased fumbles but that seems like it could be the case.

Powerbacks require much higher carrying grip because they have to withstand more rolls. I'm seeing reasonably good things at 85 on mine

This. An elusive back isn't dragging anyone and requiring more than a single roll to avoid the fumble. They just have to survive the initial strip/power tackle roll when they get tackled or break the tackle. Powerbacks have to survive the initial roll, and then subsequent rolls at whatever interval to avoid strips.

This is why taking even a minor investment on power running on an elusive back is a bad idea. You absolutely DON'T want your elusive guy to be dragging anybody. If he fails his break tackle roll, you want him to go down to the ground.

It's also why you don't take anything other than the elusive running style tactic on any player that isn't a well invested powerback. You want to minimize that power running roll as much as possible. Dragging people when you're not heavily built to handle it is a bad idea. You're gonna get stripped more often than the extra half a yard will matter.

You don't need power running on elusive backs anyways since they just Juke themselves out of bounds.

I don't get that impression in the slightest though maybe that's cuz my elusive is a fumble machine.

I have been wondering this for a while. My HB's tend to fumble quite a bit, and I can't relate it to morale or conditioning so something in the build.

my power back is at 75 Grip, 48 Cond and 52 Tough and fumbles like a leaky faucet... I think there is a problem here. For reference his height is 5'9 229lbs... if this means anything. My only question here is does the sim require power backs to have secondary skills higher than primary skills such as power rushing to stop the fumbles?

I don't see a problem with fumbles. I have some culprits on my team, but I don't have the conditioning to withstand things properly. And more often than not they are running at guys built to force fumbles.

@Gank what makes a secondary skill a secondary skill? You're injecting perception into the design.

If anything the better your HB is at power running (and mostly the more balance they have) the more susceptible he is to fumbles. I take up strip technique higher on my defensive players because I know they are going to get multiple rolls on powerbacks. My Dlineman and 2 of my LBs have tackling grip higher than tackling tech because I'm not necessarily trying to bring down the powerback, I'm trying to get more Strip Technique rolls from other players.

My combo back/returner:

191 rushes, 81 Returns = 1 Fumble in 12 games.

Power Thru gives a +15 to Carrying Grip when it activates, and it is at Gold ***s.

My powerback:

342 rushes, 3 fumbles in 12 games.

Mr. Reliable + Power Thru both at Silver **s.

68 Carrying Grip base.

---

If you are fumbling a lot, it could be because you are using SAs that reduce your ability to hold on to the ball, while I'm using SAs that increase your chance to hold on to the ball.

For instance, Stiff Arm and Spin both reduce Carrying Grip while they are active.

I don't have either of those on my Power Back and Power through is maxed out at level three and he still fumbles a lot

81Power rush 75Grip 48Condition 52Tough... Maxed out Power Through... has fumbled 6 times lost 4 in the past 5 games...

This is not a rant rather just trying to gather info here to see if this is in fact working as intended or Grip needs to be 90+ to reduce fumbles to even moderate level.... if this is the case then maybe that could be looked at in a later update.
