I have spent a good deal of time setting up different depth charts exactly how I want them, but when the DC is put into action it keeps putting players at positions that make no sense, but it is following a pattern.

1. It likes to put one of my linebackers in at RDE despite him not being on any depth chart for DE in general or any formation. It's always the same linebacker, and I've never seen him put in at LDE. This will happen when 2 or 3 out of my 3 DEs have low conditioning, but they don't always have low conditioning. Often times the linebacker in question has lower conditioning at the end of the previous play than the DEs that should be in their rightful position, but he is subbed in anyway.

2. It likes to switch my safeties around, resulting in my SS playing FS and one of my FSs playing SS. My safety depth chart is as follows:

for FS - Sometimes: 1. FS #1, 2. FS #2

for SS - Infrequent: 1. SS, 2. FS #2

I can't understand how the sim is putting my SS at FS, especially when all safeties are at 60+ conditioning at the end of previous play. I started off the season with my SS being the only player on the SS Depth Chart but it kept subbing him out anyway so I changed it to this. It seems like its a little better but still produces funky results. There should be no situation where my SS is at FS outside of 4-4 formation, but I find him at FS in all different formations (3-2-6, 4-3, 3-3-5, etc.).

For most positions the depth chart works perfectly, i.e. if I only have 1 person listed at a position it just plays that guy all day long no matter how tired he gets. It won't seem to do that for my S* SS, however. I just want that to be the case for all positions.

Is there something I am missing that will make me facepalm and completely fix my problem? This is my hope. If not I will continue to tweak until I get the results I am looking for.

I've been having a very similar problem, but it is only affecting my LBers and they are only swapping positions around the LBer slots, but this is not how I want them and not what it's supposed to be. Unlike you, I've not given it any serious attention, I'm sort of living with it, I have much more serious and pressing problems to attend to so my nose is in the game film trying to work out just what the ridiculous fuck is going on (reading that back, it sounds a bit like I'm undermining what you're saying as if it's some sort of insignificant and unworthy thing to be bothering about. I don't intend that at all, quite the opposite, I applaud you for looking at this in detail so that I can deal with it also).

I've recently (like in the last day or two) begun to wonder if this has anything to do with the default, all forms, depth chart. My understanding is that if you put anything in for the individual formations, it overrides the default, but perhaps this is nonsense (and many things in this game are just that). Maybe it's worth emptying the default positions. Of course, this may mean that the game will simply put anyone anywhere, so long as they are a valid sub for that position.

It'll be interesting to here what others have to say. Tracking energy and morale carefully is on my to do list.

I would try an empty default page except that there are formations (5-2 and 4-4 Big) that don't have their own formation depth charts so I always assumed I needed the default for those formations.

I think I might have solved the issues I was having by simply setting my DEs and FS and SS all at Infrequent usage of subs. It would be nice to not have to do that but its working for now.

Ok. I figured someone else must have encountered this. One thing I just realized was that the LB I described that was being randomly subbed in at RDE was my RDE in my goal line depth chart. Mind you, none of the plays in my playbook are GL so there is some sort of bug here where it is using information from the wrong depth chart section.
