What exactly is the QB's checkdown ability?

lol, very astute.
They've said that the way the QB reads in this is different from GLB1 (in regards to adding a QB vision kind of view).
This leads me to believe the QB evaluates all of his checkdown targets at once, just trying to meet some kind of "score" of a viable pass (perhaps pass awareness or consistency dictating how those scores work). Targets just likely have a bonus to their score based on their priority in the play. IIRC GLB1 specifically had QB's go through checkdown targets in order.
If this is the case, and the QB is simply evaluating the scores of his receivers every tick or every X ticks, then Quick Read suddenly makes a ton of sense. It gives you a pretty generous bonus to the "checkdown ability" in percentages at the levels 50/100/200.
My theory is that this is basically the frequency that your QB re-checks a score, so 50% or 100% bonus gives you more opportunities to release the ball in that 0.5-1.5 seconds that it lasts. If you check your receivers scores every 3 ticks, and Quick Read activates at level 2 with a 100% bonus - and you're checking 1.5 ticks now for that 0.6-1 second... you're probably going to find a target to release the ball

There's a check down order on the offensive plays. Typically running backs are last on this list, that's why you see QB's wait to throw to them. They are busy watching other options first. This makes Quick Read a must have to avoid hurries/sacks.

So, in a way, it increases the effect of passing awareness?
On that note, do those "first reads" in offensive plays get bonuses to their checks then?

No, it just checks down, in the check down order on the play, from left to right. If a QB is looking at WR1, he isn't looking at anyone but him for that moment.
Quick read won't increase pass awareness skill, just reduce the time it takes to check down. Pass awareness itself boosts both parts but Quick Read certainly is not a crutch to ignore Pass Aware.

More or less, yes. It's a force multiplier on your QBs ability to find open receivers more easily/quickly. Assuming he's not being hurried.

Gal, subtract the easily portion of that statement. Quick Read does not increase passing awareness.

No, but if he's looking at a lesser read, and is more quickly able to switch to a better read, the net effect is the same. The QB gets off passes to generally better targets sooner.
