Time for our first ladder matches of the new season. Will DD maintain the number 1 spot all season? Will any of the teams sitting just outside the top 10 bubble break in? We'll know after 16 games but here's the first round of match ups.
1. Doinitin Djibouti (Cheetah) host 3. Sunday Funday (Eagle)
Their sole S3 match up was quite one sided (58-0 in favor of DD) and changes to coverage should only help Djibouti in this match up. Form in pre season scrims would also seem to side with DD and indeed I expect them to start their campaign with a strong showing against Sunday Funday. For SF this is a chance for them to stamp a claim to that number 1 spot and tbh if they are to have a chance of claiming it this season this game is almost must win; a tough ask for the first ladder game! In the end a few key interceptions will hand DD the win 31-21.
2. Maine Snails (Gorilla) host 11. Portland Ronin (Tiger)
We get to see the #2 HB in the game, Totoro, against a Maine team surely sick of being the ladder bridesmaids. There's a big gap between them and the number one spot though with a 9/16 S3 ladder campaign letting Djibouti get a very large lead. Just like SF they can't afford to lose many matches at all this season let alone to teams currently outside the top 10. Maine to win 24 to 14.
4. New Jersey Generals (Cheetah) host 9. Providence Radicals (Rhino)
The start of a new season is always tough for any team however Providence had the misfortune of coming up against OG GLB in their first league game. With the Generals probably the only other team with a legitimate at the ladder title this seasoyinn I can't see Providence standing in their way this game. Come week 2 the Radicals may be on the outisde looking in at the top 10 though I don't see them staying outside for long. NJ 35 Providence 10
5. Tampa Piranhas (Osprey) host 14. Brisbane Bogans (Cheetah)
Just like Providence, Brisbane has the pleasure of playing two top 10 teams straight up whilst also dealing with chemistry issues amongst a chunk of its players. Tampa switched to a 2 QB system in the off season but seem to be holding off use of their 2nd QB until chemisty catches up. As much as I'd like the Bogans to triumph I think that defeat will ultimately be the outcome of the day. Brisbane's offense will have to find another gear if they are to compete in this game but Tampa will win 30 to 21.
6. Queen City Brewmasters (Gorilla) host 13. Monmouth EVIL MONKEYS (Eagle)
MEM have struggled against running teams in the past and clearly this weakness still exists with AGDTD putting up 37 points against them in round 1 of league play. Given that the monkeys couldn't overcome Jampy I don't see them standing a chance against the running might of QCB. QCB 42 - MEM 28
7. OG GLB (Rhino) host 15. Dookie Island (Osprey)
2 admin teams playing games in the top 10?! Rigged! (Wait why is CDog, who literally knows what the sim code, does allowed to own a team and have closed builds!?) Dookie and OG both played very strong opponents in league play this week and both came out on top. Dookie have been rising consistently over the last season and will be able to claim serious contender status with a second top 10 scalp in their belt. I'm going for the underdog and inside knowledge in this one. Dookie 28 to OG 17
8. Seattle Seahawks (Piranha) host 10. Murder City Devils (Osprey)
I'm struggling to pick this one to be honest; both are very balanced teams on both sides of the ball. Going to give the edge to team with greater than 0 cares. So Seattle gets this 24 to 21.
