Currently you can only put CB and FS bots in at CB2.

I have some run block breaking CBs, but none have the strength to really deal with those blocking WRs who are outside blockers.

When you know that you are up against a team that spams outside runs, it would be nice to put a big player in at CB to help stuff those runs.

I have LBs and SSs that have 60 to 70 Break Run Block and 40+ hold ground, but the depth chart won't let me put those players in at CB... but they will let me put FS bots in.

Obviously getting to put a DE/DT in would be gravy (but super risky if the team every decided to throw), but perhaps overkill.

Unfair to the offense, if they made the sacrifice to take the hit to the WR receiving skills to invest in the blocking skills,

defense should take the hit to CB coverage skills to invest in break block skills.

imo only OOP on defense that should be allowed is SS->FS and OLB->DE

Offense dictates flow.

A team can run a 0 passing offense or a 0 running offense and the D has to be able to react. You can have other players line up in man over the WR by exploiting the coverage system (for instance, by using a Big-formation D against a 2 WR set or a 0 WR D against a 2 WR set).

Instead of forcing an exploit, they just need to open up the DC a bit more.

You shouldn't be able to win paper rock scissors by being able to decide that your opponent can only choose scissors or paper.

use plays that match ur SS with wr.

or zone. Or use the plays that put your SS or LB more towards the strong side.

Or run a 4-4 Big that doesn't have CB2 at all.

Again, most plays that I really worry about are where only one WR is lined up on the strong side. In that case, there are very few options that do not include a CB2 in man cover on the WR2.

Like I said, there are some ways to trick the game into giving you the matchup you are looking for, but when we are dealing with a "casual" game, should we really force players to trick the sim into giving them the matchup they want when a simple Depth Chart adjustment would do the job?

"Oh, I'm playing a team with a blocking WR today. I'll just make one click and load my outside run depth chart to ensure that my best break run block DBs are lined up over the WR1 or WR2."

Instead of:

"Okay, I've got a couple of running teams on my schedule... I need to test plays to see which ones trick my SS or R-Stopping LB into lining up where I want them."

Right... but why are we suggesting ways to trick the sim into doing what the suggestion wants to do when opening up the CB DC position to permit LBs or at least SSs is a much simpler fix that doesn't involve tricks.

So tricking sim using plays bad.

Tricking sim using depth chart good?

Why not build a CB to stop that kind of thing? The entire idea around minimizing the roster was to give yourself more identity and less jack of all trades. If I can throw players anywhere I want on the depth chart what is the point?

How is that not a trick? You can use specific defenses to have your LB at CB2 or your CB at CB2.

How is that tricking the sim?

That's simply identifying that you're playing a running team and using the best tool you have for dealing with it.

Right, I'm talking about taking the trick out of it.

I mean, are you tricking the sim when you select your Return Man to return kicks? No... there's a depth chart slot there for that.

On the other hand, if you want your SS or a LB to line up over the WR can you just call a play? No you have to set your playbook to run a 4-4 against all 2 or 3 WR sets in order to not have a CB2 in order to get the LB or SS to line up over the WR (with no OOP penalty).

...which you are against allowing someone to simply do through the depth chart (with an OOP penalty).

No you aren't tricking the sim using a returner at return man. That is just a silly comparison to using an LB/DE/DT at CB2.

Time Trial, do you not have a playbook to use against run teams?

It's easy to make.

Start by looking what formations your opponent runs out of. Put 4-4 Big formation defenses on those pages along with other good run stopping plays you've found.

Tada!

No need for an OOP.

If GLB2 works the same as GLB1, just don't set the defensive depth chart and you will get non-CB bots playing the WRs.

Of course, they will likely be offensive dots, but you can't have everything.
