Why the hell is pass rushing on 3rd down 800x more effective than 1st and 2nd down? I wish I had some actual stats here but it seems QB's just forget how to throw the ball on 3rd downs and get sacked almost every time. Has anyone else noticed this?

Because on 3rd Downs, QBs are only trying routes with a legitimate shot at a first down. They won't dump it off to sub 1st down yardage routes. This means they'll eat more sacks by having to wait longer in the pocket for an acceptable route to get open.
It's not uncommon to see some good defenses run Cover 2 shell type defenses on first and second down, encouraging underneath throws, and then blitz on 3rd Down heavily. Sitting back in a passive defense on 3rd down isn't effective, since the QB will patiently wait for a good first down opportunity. At least, it's not as effective until having all those bodies in deep coverage are a sigificant interception threat.

My #1 philosophy is...never get in 3rd and long situations. This season, in 467 attempts, my team's QBs have been sacked 38 times...or %8 of the time they drop back. And I have a pure run blocking O-Line.

When I get home tonight I can give real analytics on this if you want, but pretty much what previously said, 3rd down the QB will hold on to the ball longer to make the 1st down or play designs are intended to be longer routes.

I've tried setting my team up for that, but the QB won't release the ball on those routes soon enough.
Like the player doesn't need to cross the 1st down line when you throw, you just need to throw to a spot at or beyond the first down line that the player can run to. Better that than to take the sure sack.
IRL a receiver will break a route at the first down marker on those plays... there should be some way to change the play call in those situations to have receivers routes be changed for those 3rd down throws.
Instead they just mess with the AI so that the QB hangs on to the ball.

This.
If you're throwing on 3rd and 10+ you're usually screwed.

Or you're Atlantic City, and can throw a hook to Randall Cobb, and he lol's at the CB and runs 65 yards untouched for a Touchdown.

In the rare case you're dumb enough to attempt a screen pass you're indefinitely screwed.

Adderfist cussed at me cause we've got them tonight, and I told him I didn't think he could stop him
I thought it was a pretty good attempt to goad him into gameplanning, but he may still not bother since we're in the playoffs and all

I haven't watched him yet but hes giving my WR a run for his money in the HoF.
Though he doesn't have much more YAC than I do so he can't be lol'ing at too many CB's.
