how can i tell when my contract expires? i can't find anywhere on my player page or team roster page that gives the duration of the current contract

All contracts are one year deals. During the playoffs, you can sign an extension, which gives you a second year.

When your contract expires, you're technically a free agent and can place a free agency ad or sign with another team...but it doesn't kick you off your existing team, for some dumb reason.

how can i retire then? do i have to be cut by the current team?

Cutting helps. If they won't cut you, you'll be autocut at the end of the offseason, which stinks if you need the retirement flex for a new player.

Sending a message to Support might get you off your team faster.
