I know it's a weird question, but here is an example. My WR plays on kick coverage, but he doesn't have any of the defensive skills like shed block, tackle, etc... What skills are used when he makes a tackle?

I can't find the quote for it, but my understanding is this:
When you create a character, you start with 500 SP in all your skills. How much that works out to be is based on your starting attributes and traits. This is true even for skills you can't see or add to for that player type - so your WR has a tackling skill based on having 500 SP spent in it.

We talked about this in alpha a bit. Basically you've still got the break block/tackling grip/etc. attributes, you just can't see nor add to them.

This makes sense on the face of it, but it doesn't explain why my big strong d-lineman can't push back or revcake DTs and other guys on kick coverage. 500 points or whatever it is has to be pretty small points in the blocking skills compared to the thousands I've put into the strength skills and balance. You would think my DT would run right through these guys more often than not.
Likewise, even on defense my DT occasionally goes up against much weaker (based on bench reps) O-linemen and the push is very minimal. This is a different story because obviously O-linemen are filling in skills to block more than random people thrown in on kick returns. But my point is that when a DT goes up against a guy who he is 50-100% stronger than, you would think that on most plays he would get a really good push on the linemen into the QBs face, but this has never happened. Most of the time it's about a 1 yard push and it stops there unless I break away or whatever. Of course sometimes I get revcakes. Meanwhile, on the O-line side, I've seen them push blockers in run blocking situations 5+ yards down field (granted that's usually with some SA firing).
I guess my overall point is that it appears blockers get a natural advantage, and I think the special teams plays have special rules that govern them in the sim, because otherwise I don't see how defensive guys would have nearly enough "starting" offense-side skill points to withstand other defensive guys who have added points to their skills.
