I used to do a power ranking of teams in the original GLB. I'll start it after game 2 of the season. Fair warning, the rankings fluctuate the first 6 or so game of the season before stabilizing. The ranking is based off of a formula that has worked well in the past. There is no personal opinions in this. It's all math. I usually find it rather fun to see how well the system does in picking the winners.

Did you miss people calling you names for how poorly you ranked their teams?

You know that's going to be coming soon.

We'll know the fix is in, when Sacramento routinely tops the ranking, regardless of record.

I'm used to people being mad and raging when they're not in the ranking they want. Always worse when I'm part of a team on the list. Who doesn't need a little extra hate in their life/

Might as well toss some fuel on that fire. Here are the initial rankings. Again, numbers will flip all over the place as we get a few games under our belts. Strength of schedule and all that is not applied yet so this is the basic of the basic. Ties listed in alphabetical order.

1a) Athens Bulldogs
1b) San Francisco Cab Drivers
3) Sacramento Hornets
4) Virginia Breakers
5) Texas Half-Breeds
6a) Rochester Thrashers
6b) Tucson Legion
8) Denver Parrots
9a) Cleveland Steamers
9b) Louisville Colonels
11a) Pittsburgh Steelers
11b) San Jose Bulls

It's based off of a formula that has worked really well when applied to NFL and NCAA teams. It takes into account, strength of schedule, points scored, points allowed, and performance against other teams. It will continue to flip around a bit until game 4. By game 6, it usually has pretty true numbers.

For the Athens Bulldogs specifically, the first game had all teams ranked as equal strength. A win and 67% of points scored had you tied for first since no team had more than 2/3 points scored. Game 2, the point scored dropped to 63%. That with your opponents being a combined 0-4 and both of them playing Athens close, hit the ranking hard. Athens is ranked 11/12 in performance against strength of schedule.
