I'm not sure if anyone else ran into this problem but I ended up retiring a player close to the end of last season and didn't realize that retiring him early would put me under the number to fill a superstar bar.
My suggestion would be to show some type of estimated/future superstar points if you keep all your current players to the next tier. Shouldn't be too hard to implement. Maybe just a number in parenthesis or maybe a different color bar next to the normal Gold bar that shows how many superstar points you will have at the end of the season.

It's well known, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone spent a whole season trying to fill up a bar after they have a superstar at that same tier thinking that they'll get another, and only end up wasting a season
