Players earn experience points and skill points for every league or ladder game they play. You can spend skill points to train your player's skills and improve his performance. League/Ladder games are played 2 out of every 3 days.

Ladder games = 750 SP
Each of those moves you closer to the next level on your career path, at certain intervals you get bonus SP as indicated by stars on your player page.
