So, everybody drops a ton of balls, but I got this Early Bloomer possession WR who has basically nothing but catching skills and he still seems to drop as much as any other WR (or HB for that matter). He's got 40 in hands and 30+ catch in traffic...

Thoughts?

Is the QB a good passer?

On the test server I saw players with 70 catch still drop the ball wide open. Probably the throws fault actually and the player barely is able to get his hands on the ball.

He's slow and 30 or 40 in a catching skill is still low on a grand scale. Remember, 70 is "good," and even the WRs in the NFL with the worst hands still have significantly better receiving ability than your rookie bot, and they can drop up to 15% of catchable passes thrown their way. In general even the best receivers can only catch 75-80% of passes thrown their way whether it's a bad throw by the QB, a play by a defender, a drop, etc.

nobodys players having heart will affect it as well. if your team is playing like crap, you probably can't catch a cold. if you're lighting up the other team, you'll likely continue to

It seems too random to me. Itīs like a game of chance now. It doesnīt matter if recievers are wide open or tripple covered there seems to be as much chance for both to catch the ball. This is actually helping the 60-passes-a-game teams because there is a bigger chance to get a 1st down when you throw deep three times into double coverage than when you run it until you have 3&short and throw a short, normally safe, pass. This is the biggest problem imho.

completion rate 30 yards downfield seems even higher than little 5 yard hooks

Thanks. That was a much more to-the-point way of expressing my opinion!

Honestly I don't think Receiving Hands is actually a very good skill at this level. Realistically, how many passes are thrown so that you can actually catch them in stride? From what I'm seeing, not that many. Rec Consistency and Rec Awareness are the two that I'd try to focus on to get rid of drops.

I realize 40 is low compared to an end build, but I'm talking relative to all the other receivers in his league, I doubt many of them have the Hands and CiT that he does considering many of the them are speedsters and HBs. On a dot where his entire focus has been catching skills, I'd think some separation in the drops department would start happening. Unless I'm mistaken drops are passes where a defender did not interfere, so his lack of separation shouldn't be at issue for drops.

Here are all the Drop/Target% of all the receivers on the team with him in bold, the only guy with a higher% is dot that hasn't assigned a point since day one:

28%-speed WR
21%-Rec TE, 28 hands, 28 cit, other than that all sprinting
6%-All speed WR, no catch skills
11%-Rec RE, all speed, no catch skills
32%-41 Hands, 35 Cit, 27 Recaware, 24 Reccon, 20 dive, 20 vert (all highest on team)
33%-unboosted, no sp assigned since creation
0%-speed WR
14%-BTE
17%-Power HB
0%-OT with one target
25%-BFB, no catch skills
25%-HB, no catch skills

Industry standard or better, Early Bloomer, #1 in mvp, decent.

27 and 24 respectively, not ignored.

Could be Heart and Toughness still being in the toilet, haven't touched them yet.

Unless the lack of separation is causing a weird stat issue, hit catch/target is slightly above 50%, pretty good relative to his team and similar to league leaders.

I guess I might just have to start speeding him up, his teammates with the best drop rates are the fastest guys.

You just can't do math analysis on just your league games, though, at this point in a career.
You should first, really be looking at all games - ladder, league, scrims.
And second, you have to account for the fact that your dot is changing in skills every game - you have a LOT more points today than you did days 1-3.

For now, it's just...small sample size. Annoying, but true. All you can do for now is watch the games and decide what skills you need to get what you're hoping to see. I'm staying the course for my not-speed-based WR.
