I'm creating a defensive tackle and I'm wondering what the prevailing opinion is on what skills lead to acceleration burst... My natural guess would be quickness, but the description says "the ability to change direction quickly", and while adding to it does increase 40 time, it's not by as much as you would think for increasing acceleration.

I guess what I'm trying to figure out is, if my DT gets free from his blocker what do you think should be increased to make him faster in that 5 to 8 yards he has to go to sack the QB. Quickness, sprinting, something else? And would you focus on one or take a balanced approach? (to bad there's no 5 or 10 yard dash times!)

Quickness, sprinting, footwork all work together toward acceleration from my understanding.

Snap reaction is beneficial toward acceleration as well as it would determine how quickly your DT will react to the snap.

Quickness, Sprinting, Pursuit for sure. Possibly Footwork might play into some part there.

And ya prior to the snap, snap reaction.

You think pursuit and footwork would matter? Pursuit talks about finding his way around blockers, but I'm saying if my guy just pushes the blocker off to the side. And footwork only talks about backpedaling and side stepping. Am I taking these descriptions to much at face value, should I read between the lines a little more?

With Pursuit being the main guide to Closing Speed I would imagine it plays into getting after the ball quicker all by itself. Just a theory of course but I really like Pursuit.

i agree. really pumping it on all my D dots and theyre making great plays. i can already see the difference between players that have it and players that do not. definitely a solid skill every d player should invest in.

That brings up another related point. The closing speed activation condition says "At least 10 yards away from the ball carrier except a passing QB or special teams player." Do you guys read that to mean it doesn't work against a passing QB or special teams player, or it works inside of 10 yards against those players?

It doesn't activate on ST's or when pass rushing the quarterback. Same as GLB1.

Conditioning affects your 40 speed as well, I think

Yup sprinting, quickness, and conditioning.
