Forum > Suggestions > <2 minutes in "safe" field goal range tactic

Apparently a lot of teams are getting screwed out of wins or ties by getting sacked out of field goal range, throwing picks, fumbling the ball, etc, when in range to kick for a game winner/game tying play.

My suggestion is that there should be a tactic: Less than 2 minutes to go, in safe field goal range (as it is defined in your tactics), down by 3 or tied, you should be allowed to have more control over the playcalling - i.e. I, personally, would want to switch to 100% run inside to keep my RB from running a pitch or a sweep (and subsequently fumble or TFL) or my QB from throwing a pick/sacked out of FG range/sack and fumble.

AirMcMVP has given this suggestion his endorsement, for what it's worth. It wouldn't be a terribly extensive fix, and it would clean up a lot of end game miscues that weren't necessary.

It's a work in progress maybe but I think that's a good starting spot.

More upvotes preez

If everybody wants it, it doesn't matter what bhall says (Burn,_209, I'm pretty sure some of the mods just like things the way they are because this is what they got to practice on in testing).

Would you rather lose a game on 3 sacks that take you out of field goal range/goal line fumble, or click an upvote on this thread?

Honestly, it doesn't matter if the entire user-base wants something implemented. Ultimately its up to the admins (usually Bort) to decide.

True but this seems like the kind of thing it's tough to argue shouldn't be implemented. It would make this football sim operate more like a football game, and makes this game better. I think that's all the selling point you need as long as you have some support amirite

We should allow QBs to check out of running plays late game and into pass plays too.. Romo does it.

That's not what he did. The play call was run, unless you have 10 in the box and a 1-on-1 on the WR, in which case throw it to him. Romo called the play, read the defense, and ran the play as it was called - pass to the WR because of where the D was positioned. However, once Matthews blew up the play, the pass was no longer open, and he should have gone into Creative Mode and taken the sack, thrown it away, or scrambled to try to make yards. Given how far back he was and how blown up stuff was, he should just toss that away and move on to 3rd down.

Now back to your regularly scheduled argument on first down FGs.

that's not what this suggestion is at all >.>

this thread is not at all about first down field goals, it's about running safe, almost fumble proof play for downs 1-3 when setting up for a game winning field goal

this has nothing to do with first down FGs. this suggestion is about being about to control those last 3 plays before that FOURTH down FG
