This is a list of general frequently asked questions about GLB2. If you have a question about something not covered here, go ahead and make a thread and ask in the FAQ forum. If enough people ask the same question, we'll add it here.
What is GLB2? How do I play?
GLB2 is a massively multiplayer American Football role playing game. It is played 100% asynchronously. This means that games are scheduled ahead of time for specific days and times of day, and are then simulated. The results are then made available for everyone to view. Think of it as being similar to an NFL schedule, with a game once a week that you look forward to (though our games are played daily).
Why Asynchronous Multiplayer? Can I play more often?
Pre-scheduled games allows team coordinators time to scout opponents, set up strategies, and participate in general trash talking leading up to the game. It also adds to the anticipation factor, waiting for an important game! For non-coordinators who want more frequent football action, there are Pickup players, who can play many games in one day and level up quickly.
How do I improve my player? How often do I earn points to spend?
Players earn experience points and skill points for every league or ladder game they play. You can spend skill points to train your player's skills and improve his performance. League/Ladder games are played 2 out of every 3 days.
What about my pickup player? How do I earn points for him?
Pickup players earn experience and skill points by playing in pickup games. Just click the "Play a Pickup Game" button on your player's profile page, and he will be added to the next available pickup game. Pickup games run frequently, and at all hours, so you should never have to wait too long. Pickup games are always free for Pickup players, and you can play them as frequently as you like. Pickup players cannot join a regular team.
Is there anything special about my "Free" player?
Free players are exactly that: completely free. This includes creation cost, Skill Point boosts and Ability Point boosts, so paying players can't pass you up! Also, when you retire a free player, you can make another free player in his place. Premium accounts also get TWO free players. Besides this, they are the same as any other normal player.
What are skill points, ability points, and cap boosters? How many do I get in a player's lifetime?
- Skill points are used to train your player's skills. You earn 180,000 skill points in a player's career, and can buy up to 29,000 more with SP boosts, for a total of 209,000 skill points. Superstar players earn 10,000 more skill points for a total of 219,000 points.
- Ability points are used to add and improve signature abilities. You earn 12 ability points in a player's career and can purchase up to 3 more with AP boosts, for a total of 15. Superstar players earn 3 additional points for a total of 18.
- Cap boosters allow you to raise the maximums on your skills by 5 points. You earn 3 cap boosters in a player's career.
What are signature abilities? How do I earn/improve them?
Signature abilities define the sorts of special things your player does that make him stand out. They allow players to do things such as performing spin moves, getting amped up in certain situations, or playing better in home games. Signature Abilities are bought with ability points. The first level of an ability costs 1 ability point, the second level costs 2 ability points, and the third level costs 3 ability points. There's lots of abilities to choose from, with limited points, so make sure to check them all out before deciding!
What's the difference between attributes and skills? Can I improve my attributes?
Attributes are the inherent physical abilities of your player, and can range from 1 to 10. They are defined when you create the player, and determine the player's skill costs, maximums, and minimums. You cannot earn more attribute points, so the initial settings you choose here are important, as they will determine how good your player can be at certain things. A player with 1 Speed, for instance, will never be able to reach more than about 30-40 Sprinting or Quickness skill, while a player with 10 Speed will find it much easier to reach up to 100 Sprinting or Quickness. Be very wary about lowering attributes to 1-2 unless you know what you are doing, because it can really limit the things you can do with your player.
What are traits? Do I get to add more traits?
Traits are similar to attributes in that they are inherent parts of your player, and are selected only at player creation. You cannot earn more traits, so choose wisely. Traits define the things your player is good at, by increasing or decreasing the costs of skills, along with their maximums. Use traits to refine your plan for your player type.
How many player levels are there? How long does it take to level up?
Players start at level 0, and can reach level 25. It always takes exactly 6 games of XP to reach the next level. One career tier takes exactly 1 season's worth of games (30) to finish.
What is a career tier?
Players reach a new career tier every 5 levels. Finishing a career tier earns a valuable reward, usually involving skill points, cap boosters, or ability points, and earns points toward superstar players.
How do I earn a superstar player?
Every time you have a player complete a career tier, you earn 1 point toward the appropriate superstar bar on your home page. When a bar fills up, you can create a superstar player of that type. You cannot have more than 1 of each type of superstar at a time, and you do not earn superstar points in the associated type while you have a superstar player of that type.
Do superstar players cost more flex points? What makes them different?
Superstar players cost the same amount of flex points as any other player. Superstar players earn more skill points and ability points than a normal player, and their skills cost less to train. However, they also cost +150% more towards a team's salary cap, so it is difficult to fit many of them on a team.
What are the "star" bonuses earned for reaching each level?
Every time your player's career progress bar reaches a star, he levels up and earns a level bonus. The bonuses earned are:
- Level 1: 2500 Skill Points
- Level 2: 1 Ability Point
- Level 3: 2500 Skill Points
- Level 4: 2500 Skill Points
- *Level 5:* 6000 Skill Points, 1 Ability Point
- Level 6: 2500 Skill Points
- Level 7: 2500 Skill Points
- Level 8: 2500 Skill Points
- Level 9: 1 Ability Point
- *Level 10:* 6000 Skill Points, 1 Ability Point
- Level 11: 2500 Skill Points
- Level 12: 2500 Skill Points
- Level 13: 1 Ability Point
- Level 14: 2500 Skill Points
- *Level 15:* 6000 Skill Points, 1 Cap Booster
- Level 16: 2500 Skill Points
- Level 17: 1 Ability Point
- Level 18: 2500 Skill Points
- Level 19: 1 Ability Point
- *Level 20:* 6000 Skill Points, 1 Ability Point, 1 Cap Booster
- Level 21: 2500 Skill Points
- Level 22: 1 Ability Point
- Level 23: 3000 Skill Points
- Level 24: 1 Ability Point
- *Level 25:* 10000 Skill Points, 1 Ability Point, 1 Cap Booster
What happens when I reach level 25? How long does my player play? What happens after that?
Once your player reaches level 25, he remains at level 25 for 1 additional season (30 games). You can add up to 3 additional seasons' worth of games (90 more) at level 25 by buying the appropriate boosts. After this "plateau" period ends, the player reaches the "Legend" tier and becomes eligible to only play in Legend Leagues. Legend leagues are CPU-run teams specifically for Legend players only.
What is an "experienced" player?
When you create a player, you can choose the "experienced" option. This will award the player all the XP and skill points he would need to catch up to the current season's Rookie players. This way, you can create a player at any time and not fall behind. However, you will miss out on playing the games you missed. You do not have to use this option, but it is recommended for most new players. Note that if you use this option, the player will also not receive any XP from any games he plays the same day he was created.
What is chemistry? What does it do?
Every player needs time to "gel" with his new team. When a player joins a new team, he joins with a chemistry value of zero. This value will climb with each league or ladder game played with the team. Low chemistry will cause the player to make more mistakes and play at a reduced level.
What is a ladder game? How do I get matched up with my ladder opponents?
All teams compete in a global ladder based on an ELO rating system. Every game "week," your team will be matched up with another team who has a similar ELO rating. This system helps ensure you always have competitive games to play and encourages intra-league rivalries. Root for your league!
I want to do some team management and coaching! How do I get get my hands on a team?
There are two ways to get into coaching a team: You can buy a team for 500 Flex Points and run every aspect of it, or you can help out an existing team owner by taking over a Coaching position for his team. Owning a team can take a fairly big time investment, and costs real money, so we recommend trying to find a coaching job first. Coaching costs ZERO flex points, and it will help you learn how to be an effective coach for when you do want to run your own team. If you want to coach a team, you can post an ad in the "Coaches Looking for Teams" section of the forum: http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/forum/forum/14832
