You will unlock AP over the course of your bots life. You can also AP boost three times over the life of your bot.
If fully boosted, you will get 15 AP on a regular bot or 18 AP on a superstar.
Each ability gets better with each upgrade, but also costs more. Level one requires 1 AP. Level 2 requires 2 more AP. Level 3 requires 3 more AP (6 total).
For some builds, you will want to spread the AP around, for others you will want to save up and specialize.
There should be a way (there isn't right now) to see what the second and third levels give you. Until you select level one, you cannot see what level two gives you. There are some that offer "hidden" bonuses at higher levels (like Mr. Reliable offers a really nice bonus to the "balance" skill at the third level and Home Town Hero and Road Warrior offer decent boosts to Conditioning a the highest level), so you should be able to read ahead in the mouseover to see what the second and third levels offer.
How you invest should be based on what you want your bot to do and how he's going to be used. No point in investing in Tunnel Vision for a LB bot that is doing 100% zone coverage.

To be honest, I have absolutely no clue what you just said lmao, I can do an AP boost right now I think for flex, and then added AP throughout the life of the toon?

I think you're confusing AP (ability points) with SP (skill points). You cannot AP boost yet. You can SP boost twice from the start though.

AP are used to buy special abilities, they are located at the bottom of your player's build (click the add abilities button).
You have 1 AP right now and if you SP boost you will have 5000 to 5750 SP depending on whether you played a game or not.

AP are similar to SAs in GLB Classic. The difference is that you don't have to use SP on them so you can't screw up a build by allocating them early. You do need to be careful to choose how you use your first AP correctly. If you pick something based upon initial build you may end up with something not useful as you age.
