Iguanas 20 - Stingrays 12 ( http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=61022 )

Certainly the most anticipated game on the schedule for a feisty Guayaquil squad, as the the Maracaibo Stingrays looked to waltz into Iguana park and leave 10-0 for the season with another easy win. League experts were predicting on average 3 points for the Iguana offense and outside skepticism surrounded a very confident Guayaquil camp all week. However, proving thats why they play the games, and that no sure thing can be taken for granted, a determined 11 angry Iguanas took the to the field in another home game sellout. What a game it would be!

Receiving to begin the game, the Iguanas faced an aggressive Stingray D that pressured QB Angel Montejano and forced an early interception. The defense came on, and by forcing an immediate 4 and out against a season long potent Stingray attack, set the tone for the game. A back and forth see-saw game ensued until Maracaibo broke the monotony, a 36 yard field goal make with 4 minutes left in the opening quarter. Guayaquil couldnt answer on their next drive, punting before they could get a first down as the Stingrays led a long 6 minute drive into the second quarter and tacked another field goal on the board to go up 6-0. Things looked really started looking down when the Iguanas gave up another turnover on their next possesion. "Right now it's anybody's game, we've held them to 6 points and we're still confident in our guys." Said a Guayaquil assistant coach after the second Montejano pick. Three plays later the tides turned against the 'Rays as free safety Patrick Jr., in at cornerback on the play read the situation perfectly and grabbed a throw intended WR Braves, and promptly beat feet, sprinting by an irate 'Rays QB Doc McGee and a winded Dalton Lane to give the Iguanas their first hope of a win. Once the extra point was added. half the fans stood and pointed to the 7-6 Guayaquil lead on the Jumbotron. From then on, it was a trench fight fairly even on both sides of the ball. Iguana halfback Jaromir Jagr broke open a 47 yard run as he made flat fish out of four Stingray defenders leaving them face down in the turf and setting up a Rob B Gould field goal to cap the first half and build on an Iguana lead they would never relinquish. A late game TD pass from Montejano to Mike Wallace sucked any comeback energy out of a shell shocked Maracaibo group.

Both teams continued to slug it out on the pitch, but the 'Rays could never manage more than a field goal in each quarter against a suffocating Iguana defense. Several crucial red zone stops forced sports analysts to to give credit where credit is due, is the Guayaquil defense top in the league?

An ecstatic Coach Bart Rock was thrilled by his team's accomplishment but refused to give me a damned interview citing the rest of his team's schedule as "not a cake walk like the first half" and adding "Teams will be gunning for US now" as he was swept up into a celebrating mob of players and staff. The Iguanas are the first and only team to score a touchdown against the Stingrays, doing so in style with a TD pass and a defensive score to boot.

Other notable performers of the day were Guard Zachary Burgess who lead the game in pancakes along with Tear Drop and Boss Reed who each had 7 tackles for the lizardmen. Perpetual backup linebacker Chet Tindall managed 2 tackles for the fourth game in a row making the Iquanas undefeated (4-0) on the year when he makes a tackle, and 5-1 when he doesn't. "We lose 10 percent of our games when I dont bring down a ball carrier, thats just a statistical fact. 68% of all people can tell that."

Next week your Iquanas roll into South Shore to take on the Slammers who are coming off of a tough loss to the Massacre.
