Ahh yes, but did you know, that in every measurable way, from birth defects, to violence and beyond, alcohol is more damaging. And the stats aren't even close. In fact, you can combine every illegal substance and they still don't come close to the damage done to people and society that alcohol does us.

Some hard working dudes long ago sorted the best seeds and got us what we have. Others culled the most docile animals and bread the biggest best producing ones. What we do now is just a short cut. What we need is to be careful of those short cuts. Long range testing is needed before it ever comes close to human use.
