Reserved for tonight's Q & A.

How the Q & A will work:

The thread will be locked. We will give users the chance to ask questions. Once there have been about 10 questions asked the thread will be locked to give us the opportunity to answer them. The Q & A session will run for approximately 2-3 hours and we'll probably open it up for general chat/discussion for the last 30 minutes or so (during this time, don't expect questions to get answered).

Rules for the Q & A:

1) Ask your question only once. If we don't answer it immediately, don't repost it.
2) Keep it on topic. This is not a discussion thread, this is a question and answer session. Ask a question and wait for us to answer it. If you have something to say with another user, do it via private message.
3) Limit your questions so other users have the opportunity to get a question answered.

If you violate any of these rules you will receive a temporary forum ban until the Q & A is over. Forum rules will also apply and any violations of those rules will lead to warnings/suspensions.

PM question:

What factors can contribute to the decision to make a fair catch? I'm asking because of this bug thread: http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=4945089&page=1#45838561

We are not a public company; our "board" consists of decisions made by the co-owners and input from all our employees.

No, that's not something we're going to do.

Been suggested many times, always reasons not to have this. You will never be able to change another player's tactics directly.

Does the same people who started this game still own it?

Yes, the same people still own and run the game as always have.

It is not likely we will be adding or changing any additional player build related stuff with SA's or BT's. VAs possibly, but there would need to be a really good reason to add them.

That's something Catch was planning on doing something with a while back; would be up to him on the testing front.

With the way testing is currently set up (something I've mentioned in the past), doing SA testing isn't really viable. We'd need to be able to figure out a way to run games in batches. Doing 1 game at a time, every 10 minutes, just makes it not feasible to accomplish any type of SA testing since you'd need a large sample size of data to verify is something is working/not working.

ie Run block vs Strong base..which is more power full..

two solid built G and DT and run it many many many times on a "run play" and see what happens..then do it for like cut block and such?

That's not really a viable way to test if a SA is working or not working. You'd need to run probably a minimum of 100 (preferably 1000) games with players not having the SA and then running another batch with them having the SA and evaluating the differences both statistically and in game.

And for mine.

From an outside perspective, it appears that GLB previously thrived almost purely from word of mouth promotion. Now that the game has exited from that initial growth stage, it's rather uneasing to a lot of us diehards who have long supported the game through both revenue and volunteered help. I did just buy a decent-sized flex package this past offseason, but honestly I do have doubts on the longevity of the game at this juncture and that does inhibit my purchasing.

Have you explored the organic search side of things for GLB? Obviously we hear wisps of advertisements, etc. once the game is settled, post-beta or whatever, but it seems like the SEO side of things is something that should have been tailored to maximizing traffic as things went along. With the size of GLB's target market, we're all really just a drop in the bucket.

Back to my concern. Many reasonable keyword searches never yield GLB as a top result, which is partly mind-numbing given the ease for optimization. Searching for 'football rpg' in Google gives you Quick Hit and Pigskin Empire, but GLB doesn't come anywhere near the first 3 pages. Searching 'online football game', 'american football game', etc. produces similar results.

I'm definitely team GLB here, hoping to see a strong rebound in the near future.

We do come up #1 under "football MMO" currently, but I would like to come up higher on some of those other searches. TBH (and I actually have a lot of experience with SEO), page content is pretty irrelevant these days as far as search engine placement as is links from other sites and the content on them. Therefore, advertising and growing our company web presence from other future games will provide a much larger visibility boost than any changing around of content and such we can do at this point. These are things that are in the future business plans.

As for the other question, I would like to do some work on converting the sim code to have a websocket front-end so we can do live playcalling type stuff and some of those other things we'd like to do.

Just sort of touched on this in another question.

I just think it would be nice for something to test plays besides in just scrims . Like team practice or something. Even if its an extra thing we have to pay for..

Answering since I know the answer to this and it's been answered numerous times: Would take a ton of coding work to set something like this up. It's one of the main reasons we set up the quick scrimmages so teams could test stuff out. Doing team vs team though is problematic and not something we're looking to do at this time.

Edit to add Bort's response: As for the other question, I would like to do some work on converting the sim code to have a websocket front-end so we can do live playcalling type stuff and some of those other things we'd like to do.

Bad passes occur when the QB fails a roll between the incoming pressure score and his confidence/pq/pocket presence abilities. A bad throw can occur with no hurry just due to a terrible roll or pressure from a guy who's not close enough to register a hurry stat.

A good amount of experience with web design, web programming, and server management/systems administration. I learned various stuff on my own over the last 25 years or so, but there's plenty of community college courses on those sorts of things out there.
