I have a level 1 pass rush DE that i plan to build in a stupid/weird way.

I want to take agility to 92 and put all eq into it.
Take vision up to 83-86
and then start working on speed.

Does this even have a chance of working?

To beat common O-tackle builds it might be interesting.

Has anyone ever tried an unorthodox pass rush build?

You can try it. Only issue I see is he'll be completely a liability on run D on inside runs. Could be wrong though cause having a evasive tactic with that much agility could allow him to shed blocks at a higher rate than most DE's. If you go extreme on agility though go 88 at most cause you'll still need speed in the 90's end build and some strength to be effective.

Not that unorthodox, many DE's did the same thing way back around season 8 when agility allowed players to "teleport" through the O-line with the right combo of SA's.

Recently Agility has become more important in Block Breaking thanks to a decrease in Pancakes allowing Defenders to stay on their feet better and use agility to break blocks.

The thought on agility is fine, in the sim as it exists at this moment (Not 6 seasons from now when your dot will mature)Havign high agility has become a better option than it has been in the past ten or so seasons when Strength was extremely important for D-line.

Don't take vision that high. It'll help you get a jump on the snap, but only up until a point. There was a study done on vision and the Jump the Snap VA and how long it took a D-linemen to start moving once the ball is snapped.

From this initial review, the player with 55 vision took an average of 3.048 ticks over 59 plays to react to the snap. Those with 68-70 vision took an average of 2.525 ticks over the same 59 plays. That is a difference of 0.523 ticks between the 55 vision and 68-70 vision.

And here is a study of 8 players over 5 games... keep in mind all of this data is almost 2 years old, but I think the main gist of it still holds up.
Snap Awareness is the average number of in game ticks that pass after the snap before the player begins moving.

I really think there is a point around 74 vision where the dot's reaction time stops improving very much for every point of vision invested and those points end up being a waste. I think the difference between 90 vision and 75 vision is about .3 ticks. Use those SP's and take Speed to 84 2nd and use one AEQ piece in speed so it ends near 110, max out first Step, Shed Blocks, and Tunnel Vision, this would resemble a S10 DE back when agility was king on the line, an although you won't be able to teleport anymore, you should be able to get around a typical OT quite a bit of the time, just make sure you take Strength high enough so it ends at at least 84.

If you want to read more about the vision study it's in the D-line Private forum.

However I wouldn't suggest this...

An ideal DE right now is

125 Strength
125 Agility
100 Speed
80 Tackling
70 Vision

Max First Step, Shed Blocks, and Diving Tackle

Could probably do better numbers than this too, I'm just guessing at about what could be accomplished, as I haven't tried running something like this through the VPB.
