Hi guys..

My returnman keeps making fair catches on punts although there's noone too close to him..! Anybody know how to fix that?

I'm seeing a lot more fair catches on punt returns since the changes. I assumed it might be a low level thing, but perhaps it is widespread.

Have a replay example showing the situation where you feel there was no one close to the returner?

Ok i looked at most of the replays, and in each case, the returner caught the ball while there was someone within 5 yards of the returner. If you have any old replays where you can find someone within 5 yards of the returner not calling a fair catch i'd like to see those replays.

Far as i've ever seen, when a player is within a distance like that they will call for a fair catch. I don't know the specific distance but 5 yards seems to be the key at this point since that is what i'm seeing in every replay. If you can find ones where they didn't fair catch at that distance it could possibly be an issue.

I think they have inserted something in the game that stops a punt return on a point less than 20 yds, in a friendly my team played yesterday, our punter got 2 returns from 7 or 8 punts, and those were the only 2 punts over 20yds (22.5 and 28yds)

Can anyone confirm this?

So no, there is nothing about punt distance that determines if it's allowed to be returned.

It's about the distance of the closest punt team player to the return man. The higher the punt (especially short punts) the more likely a player will be able to reach the returner and force a fair catch

Plenty more to go with that from that game alone.

However every fair catch my guy had in that game was 11 yard punts.

Seems like there are a few more fair catches this season, but nothing too crazy.

I have seen some fair catches in that 5-6 yard away range and have seen returns in the 7+ yard range.

seems like 6 yards is the dividing line from the fair catches i've seen.
