Is this a good idea?

I don't think the percentages are going to favor this idea. Short passes might be the best passing option, but stay safe and run it. if that doesn't work hope the defense can come back with a 3 and out and you get a good return. The percentages are more in favor of the latter.

Personally I wouldn't think it is a very big problem, if:

1. You don't keep your HB in to block
2. You make the pass plays quick
3. You make sure your HB is your 2nd or 3rd option in that package.

If you keep your HB in to block, you will fail. If you send your players deep, into what most likely is a cover 3 style defense, then you are in serious trouble. Pick 6 or 'coverage' safety will almost certainly happen.

It can be done, but it has to be a specific package built for the goal line area. If your O AI doesn't have the functionality built, using your "middle of the field" offense in that area of the field, that is 100% OC problem.

the most dangerous thing about passing in that situation is they dump it off to a guy behind the LOS who gets tackled for the safety. IRL the QB would throw it away first, but GLB doesn't see it that way
