So, on my 3-4 defense, I'm trying to use 3 DTs as my LE, NT, and RE. I'm using DEs as my ROLB and LOLB. But when I want to switch to my Nickle Defense, (RE, DT, NT, LE), instead of my DT that's playing the RE or LE position, I want him to move to his natural position of the DT or NT. I want to move my DE that was on the ROLB or LOLB position and move him to the RE or LE position in the Nickle defense. Is that possible?

You can do the DEs at OLB by using the LOLB1/ROLB1 slots to put your DEs in (not sure how bad the OOP will be there though)... but since there are no DE1 slots, you won't be able to put NTs at DE for one situation and DEs there for another... it's all or nothing in the DE slots.

Bummer, I wish they atleast they had the 2-4-5 Defense.

GLB should do that, a DE1 DE2 Slot. I see using your NT/DT for different types, and plugging in the NT for Run and DT for Balanced or Pass as needed, but I love the idea of sitting up 3 RS DT's across your front, with two PR DE's playing your LB (or just one, as long as he's the one you rush each time).

Building such a hybrid that can PR off the edge but cover when he has to much be difficult though, which is why you'd have to make him one dimensional and send him every time... making/using two DEs like this? Wow.

One thing you can do is run a 4-3, have 2 pass rushing DEs and spread them. Run two NTs at both DT slots and build a LB with extreme Strength and run him in the middle every play, either blitzing or dropping into a short zone. The MLB build does need a fair amount of Speed to be effective so don't build like a NT but I would definitely shoot for 100+ Strength along with 120-130 Speed. I would run the LILB and RILB with good coverage ability .Tackling needs to be high on the MLB but Agility can suffer a bit. I have one dot being built like this but until he is finished I ain't shown the build.

This is the dot. He has all of his major and minor attributes trained up to 95%+ so he will blow up once I train them over following his final boosts and ALGs.

The fix is to build/recruit specific linebackers for your defense.

the only way you could somewhat get away with this would be to force starters on 1 and/or 3rd and make sure your energy settings are really high for the positions you are force starting.

You could put all 3-4 on first down and force starters. Have run stop DT's at the starting position for DE's and use your custom slots for LB's. It would take some serious thought as to when you wanted it to happen, but I think if you force starters on 1st and 3rd, you could get away with most of the time.

I don't have the patience to completely explain, but I think you could probably work it with some success by forcing starters and having your other type DE's as back ups.

You won't get what you want every time and may be caught with run stop line vs. pass, but maybe not.

Like i said though.....it will take some real thought, but it's possible to be done with some serious manipulation of energy, force starting, formation depth chart, and custom slot over-rides.

still doesn't solve the problem of wanting 300 lb DT's at the DE spot though.

I just find it odd that GLB hasn't caught up with how formations are being used now-a-days in college football and the NFL aswell. I mean, every defense pretty much uses the 3-4 and goes to a 2-4-5 in nickle and dime situations.

The GLB community doesn't seem to catch up all that quickly. The real reason that I can see is that ppl simply don't make enough LB to satisfy the demands of a 34 defense. There's too many ppl building DTs instead.

I've been thinking about trying to run that defense, but I would need to make the run blocking DEs (4) and the ILBs (4). Ppl already make DTs and blitzing LBs so the NT and OLB positions aren't a problem. Problem is, I don't make enough money to support that many elite players at those positions. It's a shame too. That defense is much better suited to stopping the run than the 43.

4-2-5 seems pretty common also

I basically built my whole DL as NTs, just choosiing the large DEs and building them as closely to the DTs as possible. The original idea was to run the 3-4, but have the personnel to run the 4-3 if it was not working. As it stands now, I've got 8 uber strong DL, 6 speedy LBs and two Uber strong LBs. We have had to run the 4-3 because we were losing games running a 10 season old 3-4 defense and our new DC didn't have a handle on the 3-4. I couldn't be happier though, as since he has come aboard, we rarely give up more than 20 yards rushing a game,we've given up 251 through 9 games this season in Elite. Last year in competitive, we gave up 23? yards rushing for the season, something ridiculously low. We don't get tons of sacks but we always lead the league in hurries by a big margin. And, our DC is ready to trot out his 3-4, so we can mix and match as needed.

But yes, it is much easier to do this sort of thing if you own 90% of the players on the team. But its worth the time and money, for my purposes. And to pull it off, you have to have very special LBs, or you're going to get owned.
