using Firefox - the latest version 7.01 - i've tried to install a couple different scripts and get the same error:

Script could not be installed [Exception... i've cleared FF cache. but problem remains. anyone seen this before?

There's always the nuclear option. Move your gm_scripts directory somewhere safe. Uninstall greasemonkey. Restart firefox. Reinstall greasemonkey. Restart browser. Install any random script. Assuming it works, exit the browser. Copy your gm_scripts directory back in place. Start the browser and hope for the best.

wow. very detailed instructions. i like. will do. and if THAT doesn't work, will install an earlier version of firefox.

dang! tried your "nuclear" option but didn't fix the problem. jumped thru the hoops to create new profile, same problem. uninstalled firefox completely and reinstall failed until i deleted all mozilla folders/files from p.c. - then allowed a fresh copy of firefox - only change is the actual message. when i try to install greasemonkey, error indicates firefox could not access the folder it needed to install greasemonkey.

so now it seems to be a permissions problem. need to figure out which folder it is trying to access and see if i can fool with the permissions a bit. or maybe just let it go for now and see if i can get the basic scripts i want to work with chrome.
