Lots of plays in our playbook have (for some time) had tackles and even TEs pulling.

Yet when I brought up the "Pulling Lineman" VA on one of my teams, someone quoted an oldish post saying that GLB logic only looks at GUARDS as pulling.

My question is whether other linemen pull, according to GLB logic.

(Bear in mind this isn't a question about the play diagram, it's a question about the reality -- does Pulling Lineman work for tackles & other O-line positions?)

Thanks

If I remember correct the VA works for any lineman but when it was created there were only pulling G plays. Bort said at that time somewhere that he intended to get more plays where other linemen pull.

If a tackle goes ahead of the flat for a screen is that considered a pull for GLB coding?

I am not sure but I always assumed pulling lineman was limited to running plays.

Gonna e-mail support to be dead sure, but I think you guys are right on screens and runs.

I would just build a normal run blocking lineman and hope the VA works. The problem is that unless you control the offense you may or may not run many plays that justify the investment.

Dragon's got a good point there.

My guess is you'll take strength way up there then blocking/agility, as for a normal lineman.

I guess if you were to specifically think about the pulling lineman function you would want speed to end up higher by the end of the build than usual. Where do you guys usually get speed for a guard by end build? (Add 5 to that target, is my advice.)

I'm gonna try to leave str where it is and go for higher spd/agi. It's kind of experimental, but we run a lot of screens and pulls. If it doesn't work I'll just retire him.
