Why not let it bounce and likely go out of bounds (at that angle) or at least let it bounce and let the returnman, who was coming up just behind the center, grab it?

And why was the kick so short anyway? RNG? Kicker fatigued? (lots of kickoffs in the game)

Not really sure why you feel this would be a bug tbh.

Comparing it to a real life football game, if it is kicked directly to an "up man" they generally field it if they are able. With that short of a kick he cleanly fielded it and you got pretty good field position.

Anyone else see this as a huge concern?

no, but if a fat linemen with 6 carrying takes the ball and fumbles it may become one, but should only happen at such low levels anyway. I thought it was hard coded that the KR/PR HAS to be the one that gets the ball though.

Good question and one I will have to ask to find out the answer.

sometimes that happens in real football.

That's the first time I've ever seen someone other than the KR field the ball. There are plenty of replays where short kicks are totally ignored by the blockers, so maybe Bort finally changed the coding. I wonder if the kicking team can recover now?

It could be, if teams start putting someone like an OG in the K position on kickoffs again to try and get OL to field the ball and then fumble.

Agreed. Haven't seen this before, but I remember they old ways of forcing a short kick to put FFum builds right on top of the KR/PR every time.

But if it becomes an issue then it might be prudent to force certain builds to auto fair catch in this situation, maybe. Or at least allow that as a player tactic for STers?

if the ball has already bounced. Players should just dive on it like a fumble.
Seems like GLB's almost ready for onside kicks.

Not a bug, new maybe - but I don't see anything wrong with this behavior.

Wait a second, though... if Bort has changed the coding on kickoffs, shouldn't this have been listed on the Changelog?

That's what I thought as well.

Could it be that this was a future change that Bort accidentally made "live" by mistake? Wouldn't be the first time he's done that.

I still think the prudent thing would be for the blocker to have let the ball go out of bounds--is GLB coded for that at all? has anyone ever seen a replay where the KO went OOB?
