So a 1/4 of the way through the season and the WL is as expected, tough as nails contests with people scrambling to get somewhere in the new SIM, and awful teams posting threads about how they are the greatest, like duh, or how they are going to get that elusive first win.
But what makes this season different? What are the non-surprises? The surprises? Statistics never lie, so looking there may help us later in this report.
The idea here is to write 4 quarterly (duh) reports this season, cataloguing who are the teams who have outlived expectations, underlived expectations, should be in the POs and shouldnt be in the playoffs. Thus without further ado...
Non-surprises OR "We all saw it coming and can do nothing about it, similar to global warming":
1. Mainstays MPHD, Odessa, Korb, Canton and HHWC are all flying high. These teams are stacked year in year out, and deserve to be playing up here with the best.
2. All SLAP representatives are in line for a PO spot. Ok OK, Mayan and RTOF are both #7 and #8, but if the season ended today, all four SLAP teams would make it. SOmberos off to you guys, proving SLAP is probably the best PRo league in the world
3. Upsets in WL are up IMO. This is not a surprise, teams that make WL, deserve WL (well with one exception ) and can beat any one at any time.
Surprises OR "Holy shit TCAT made an interesting thread":
1. All three top teams in the Nibs rankings are the top of WL, i.e. the only undefeated teams. MPHD, DL and PM all are 4-0 and looking set on achieving playoff Nirvana early. This isnt surprising, its the way it should be, but what is surprising is that in a passing SIM, in a passing league, these teams are respectively #2, #4 and #1 in rushing offense. Maybe things are starting to level out at the top levels in GLB? Or is it an anomaly?
2. Sumatra Seahawks won a WL game! Oh, and then won another one! What is not surprising is that they have one of the top three defenses in WL, which is a testament to coordinators over there. well done fellas!
3. Paris has the top defense in the game right now, and are not being overlooked by people's rankings. If I was ranking defenses here, I would put them at #1 for their defense.
My Top ten WL teams at 1st quarter:
1. MPHD - taut has them tight
2. Paris - Hate the people that live in this city, but good dotball team
3. Longhorns - team with two more seasons in plateau looking for some hardware before decline kicks in! Best secondary this season in WL
4. Odessa - lost a good one to Dallas, still a top team of course
5. Sofia - suffocating defense makes for close games, winning them essential, with a W against Providence, would be a lot higher
6. Canton - imortally around this spot in rankings. Are they immortal playoff losers?
7. Indianapolis - jtserb has them winning the games they should, passing game is efficient
8. RTOF - blazz and his passing prowess, has best QB in WL atm (DL), hasnt been translating to top wins. should be playoff team though
9. Mayan - slow start, but always finish well
10. Korb - should be higher, cannot bear to look at that MPHD loss though
Teams on the rise:
Krungthep - after losing two close ones to top teams, have destroyed one team and beat another riser in MJ. Funny thing is, they do nothing great statistically except get to the QB. Obviously its clicking now though.
Moose! - havent playe a zone defense since the first two games of beat down, but catch, hazy and the rest of his personae (including Bort's one and only playmate) have come through big, beating HOOD! and also coming close with Krungthep.
Teams on the decline:
Lincoln - I think they are on the way to dropping. NOt a massive prediction on my part, they look awful and nobody is missing it. Maybe the end of season thread will be different this season. THough I do doubt it.
Krakow - GUYS! What the fecking hell! You had something going there and now you suck again. Get back on the dragon and get back to where you were going.
Likely PO scenario at first quarter OR "throwing darts blindfolded at a board with teams names on it":
