I am back folks, to reprise my weekly highlights of one game (maybe two) if time permits. **PLEASE ADD YOUR FAVORITE PLAYS FROM YOUR GAME TO THIS THREAD**
I did this in season 14 when Sumatra stumbled to an 0-16 record and it made it fun despite the losses.
This season the Seahawks hope to avoid becoming the first team in World League history to go 0-32, but it just might happen. Although today's O.T. loss to Canton gives me some hope!
Enough blabbering, let's take a look at this game. At first glance this appeared to be a mismatch. The Mercenaries struggled through the pre-season losing most of their game. The Tire Fires were WL champs in S20 and a solid playoff team in S21. The Tire Fires are also owned by a deity and brought in Malik Rose and his massive corporate endorsement codpiece.
Let's take a look at how this game went down:
The game got off to a great start for the Mercenaries. As Malik was carried out to the field on a litter being fanned by palm frond clad sycophants feeding him peeled grapes it was clear that the accolades might have gone to his head. On 3rd and 13, he dropped back looking for Rapid Ambulation when Bergholt Stutley Johnson stepped in front of the pass and took it to the house:

E-City 7 - East St. Louis 0
When East St. Louis got the ball back it wasn't much better and after a 3 and out that saw Malik screaming at his WR's and the OC it was game on. E-City got the ball after the punt and Lunar Wind broke a 41-yard run setting up a FG:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1698712&pbp_id=2286326
E-City 10 - East St. Louis 0
ESL get the ball and it is another three and out with two more Malik incompletions. But the Fires defense held strong and forced a 3 and out of there own. Malik finally completes his first pass a 20-yard strike to Swift Swizzle:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1698712&pbp_id=2287185
But a few more incompletes and it was time for another punt. E-City took over and extended their lead to 17-points thanks to this 76-yard screen pass from Golden Arm to Mother's Milk (gotta be a masturbation joke somewhere in that connection):
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1698712&pbp_id=2287456
E-City 17 - East St. Louis 0
E-City is feeling good after forcing another ESL punt, but maybe too good. Golden Arm hits Jay Backer Jr. who tries to break a tackle but is hammered by Donovin Darius who forces a fumble and The Jackie Puppet jumps on it:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1698712&pbp_id=2287990
ESL can't move it, but they do get a FG out of the turnover to cut the lead to 14 points.
E-City 17 - East St. Louis 3
The first quarter finally ends (lots of plays, lots of Slow Starter lovin') as E-City drives for a FG of their own. Mothers Milk can't squeeze out the necessary yardage on 3rd and 1.5 and instead of going for it on 4th and .5 they kick a FG:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1698712&pbp_id=2288584
E-City 20 - East St. Louis 3
Now that Malik is out of his 1st quarter malaise (he started off 1 for 10 with a pick), he starts to connect on his passes with more regularity. Here he hits California Dreamer for 39-yards:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1698712&pbp_id=2288758
That leads to a FG which makes it:
E-City 20 - East St. Louis 6
E-City is stopped and forced to punt, but they get their 2nd huge turnover of the day. Hakeem The Dream forces a fumble and Brian Chavez II jumps on it to give the underdogs great field position:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1698712&pbp_id=2289235
Then Golden Arm connects with Catch'em High for 36-yards:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1698712&pbp_id=2289290
That sets up another FG. Would E-City regret not converting some of these TD's into FG's?
E-City 23 - East St. Louis 6
ESL says, I see your 'three' and raise you a 'seven' when they return the ensuing kickoff 94-yards for a TD:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1698712&pbp_id=2289564
E-City 23 - East St. Louis 13
All that early mojo (*no Mojo*) and to only be up 10? Never fear, E-City gets back on track driving for a TD of their own and eating up much of the remaining 2nd Quarter. No huge play but the drive was capped by a nice shortie from Golden Arm to John Fasano:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1698712&pbp_id=2289893
E-City 30 - East St. Louis 13
That was the halftime score as E-City missed a long FG near the end of the half. The 3rd quarter started off with the teams trading punts and sacks. But E-City is winning the battle of field position and after pinning ESL inside their own 5, Igot Middle forces a fumble with a big hit and Kitt The Car drives on the field freaking everyone out and pins the ball under his front left tire:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1698712&pbp_id=2291003
Two plays later Roland Wee-Bey Brice takes it around the end and in for the TD:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1698712&pbp_id=2291032
E-City 37 - East St. Louis 13
Alarm bells! Have we underestimated this E-City team? ESL finally wakes up and starts firing on all cylinders. Some Malik shorties moves the chains and gets the ball across midfield. Then Hellion Moss III breaks one for 43-yards and a TD:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1698712&pbp_id=2291298
E-City 37 - East St. Louis 20
E-City isn't going to just run three times up the middle and punt though. They keep running their offense and moving the ball down the field. They settle for a FG:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1698712&pbp_id=2291789
E-City 40 - East St. Louis 20
Now it is time to man the f up and go to work for the favorites. Malik to Otto for 14 twice:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1698712&pbp_id=2291857
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1698712&pbp_id=2291871
4th quarter now, Malik to Swizzle for 34:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1698712&pbp_id=2291905
Malik to Dreamer for 19:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1698712&pbp_id=2291945
Forte up the middle for the TD:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1698712&pbp_id=2292016
E-City 40 - East St. Louis 27
With only 12 minutes left in the game the Tire Fires defense needs to gain traction. They do just that as Igor Olshansky, Soggybottom Funkenpants, Aki Kaurismaki and Picture Me Rollin combine to not only force a three and out but to puch E-City into losing 6.5 yards as well:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1698712&pbp_id=2292108
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1698712&pbp_id=2292133
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1698712&pbp_id=2292148
ESL takes over at their 41 and Malik wastes no time hitting Swizzle for a 58-yard TD on the drives' first play:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1698712&pbp_id=2292252
E-City 40 - East St. Louis 34
Holy hell is it a one-score game and their is 10-minutes left. What will the newcomers do? Fold like origami or find their missing offense and get going. They choose the later and pickup four first downs getting into FG range where Takekura Bukake (I mean Gen 2) does a facial between the goal posts to make it a two score game again:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1698712&pbp_id=2292525
E-City 43 - East St. Louis 34
With 4:52 left ESL takes over and it is Malik time. Malik to Sizzle for 43:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1698712&pbp_id=2292607
Malik to Sizzle for 13:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1698712&pbp_id=2292641
But that is as far as the drive goes, it is good enough for a FG though and Cardinal Cardinal puts the eucharist right down the middle and it is a one-score game again:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1698712&pbp_id=2292745
E-City 43 - East St. Louis 37
E-City takes over with 2:43 left in the game. They play it safe with runs on 1st and 2nd downs. But then they decide to go big or go home and decide to throw it on 3rd and 6. Golden Arm drops back and looks for Marmaduke, but Baron Bror von Blixen has that bitch on a leash and he picks it off and runs it in for the TD:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1698712&pbp_id=2292888
East St. Louis 44 - E-City 43
The home town fans are stunned! The coaches are bitching to the owner about why didn't they Promo this game?! But the game was not over. Golden Arm put on his helmet gathered the offense and said 'This shit ain't over! Let's win this one for WEPL'.
After a decent return the home team takes over on their 36.
1st and 10, 1:42 left: Golden Arm looks for Fasano, but Bossman Jr. deflects it, incomplete:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1698712&pbp_id=2292962
2nd and 10, 1:37 left: Golden Arm hits Sandor Clegane for 23-yards and a first down:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1698712&pbp_id=2292982
Huge play, now at the ESL 40, they just need another 5-10 yards to get in FG range. And they get it. Golden Arm hits Lester Bagley for 8.5:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1698712&pbp_id=2293027
A couple of time-wasting runs later, perhaps a defensive time-out should have been called here after a 3rd and 1.5 run for a .5 yard:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1698712&pbp_id=2293061
But it wasn't and with :12 left Takekura lines up the game-winnign 43-yard FG and nails it:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1698712&pbp_id=2293082
