Having multiple Elite leagues waters down the idea of these leagues which is to have the best representatives of each age group in one super tough league.

Currently we have the following:

National Semi Pro 2 Elite leagues - 2 Competitive leagues - 2 Regular leagues
National Minor 1 Elite league -1 Competitive league - 1 Regular league
Regional Minor 2 Elite leagues - 1 Competitive league - 1 Regular league
Local Minor 2 Elite leagues - 2 Competitive leagues - 1 Regular league
University 2 Elite leagues - 2 Competitive leagues - 1 Regular league

With the exception of National Minor all the others have multiple Elite leagues. I propose making only one Elite league made up of the teams seeded 1-6 in each conference of each Elite league (24 teams) and the winners of the conference/league championships in the Competitive Leagues (8 teams).

Then going forward only have 1 Elite league with 2 competitive leagues feeding into it. If there are sellbacks/guts then promote playoff teams from competitive similar to what is done at the WL level. This will ensure that the best of the best at each age group get the most competitive possible matchups and will instantly improve the competitiveness of the Competitive leagues since they will now be the holding ground for teams on the cusp of Elite status rather than the mish-mosh of crappy teams and demoting Elite teams we currently have.

Having a situation like we currently have in Regional Minor where there as as many Elite leagues as there are Competitive and Regular combined is antithetical to competition as it separates the very best teams into two leagues and then fills in the gaps with teams that simply will not be able to compete. This suggestion is a synthesis of several other suggestions that have been put forth in the last couple of days.

Maybe I'm just out of it, but I've been noticing a trend and the current rules for demotion and promotion aren't exactly helping on the competition scale. I have noticed the past couple seasons that we're demoting borderline playoff teams from the Elite division and demoting them to Competitive where they just wreak havoc and for the most part dominate with 0 effort the following season. On the other end of the spectrum you also have lower seed playoff teams from Competitive (typically the 5-8 seeds) that promote to Elite and just get blown out of the water.

I see that Bort has fixed the sorting algorithm for the World League (check world league forums for his post on the topic). I suggest he use a similar version of the sorting algorithm for the minor leagues as well.

As it currently sits now, all the playoff teams from Elite #1 get promoted to the same conference the following season, while the other conference is filled by playoff teams from the lower leagues. This instantly creates an imbalance in the competition in the league. If the goal is to get the best teams into the top leagues each season, then this sorting method needs to be fixed.

My suggestion, which is very similar to what appears to be done in the World League for this season is as follows:

1. Take all playoff teams (that aren't resetting) from Elite #1 and sort them by the normal methods, but split the group such that roughly half are in Alpha and half in Zeta.

2. Fill the remaining spots in each league with the remaining teams that were promoted from the lower leagues.

There just aren't 64 "elite" teams at ANY level, and trying to fill more than one "elite" league means sucking the competition out of the "competitive" leagues, which in turn sucks any possible competition out of the regular leagues.

My favorite example is my own non-boosting team: http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1435 Won a playoff game in "competitive" last season, which means it's arguably one of the top 48 teams for its level. It shouldn't be sniffing anything "elite," but that's how watered-down the "competitive" leagues were last season -- and, apparently, again this season. Seriously, does any team in a so-called "ellite" league want to play an unboosted team five seasons in?

This needs to happen immediately, and let's reshuffle the minor leagues before rollover and finally get it right.
