A lot of close games last week makes things difficult when trying to rank the teams.
The Top Eight
1. Berlin Stormtroopers (LW 1):
They manage to beat the Beer in a close game even though they were outgained by a good margin. They managed to get great field position due to interceptions, and that turned out to be the difference maker in that game. The Beer is a good enough team such that playing them close isn't that bad, and combined with Buffalo's lackluster performance for 3 quarters versus Vatican, they barely keep their #1 spot. It doesn't mean now, since they play Buffalo this week which will remove the doubt behind who is #1 right now.
2. Buffalo Buffalos(LW 2):
They start off very slow against Vatican, having their first 2 passes intercepted, which probably hurt the QB's morale all game long. They manage to mount a 4th quarter explosion to pull of the victory, but they still ended up outgained.
3. Rome Gladiators (LW 3):
They beat Tranmere in a game that looks close scorewise, but they outgained them by almost 300 yards. This was a strong enough performance to hold off being passed by the Sidhe. They face the tough part of their schedule as they take on the Beer and Stormtroopers in back to back weeks.
4. Kilkenny Sidhe(LW 4):
They beat the Dublin Fighting Irish through use of a long touchdown pass and turnovers. The next three opponents do not have a a record above .500, so they should be sitting pretty in this spot for a few weeks.
5. London Rippers (LW 5)
We win, but the last minute curse continues as the Dublin Shamrocks completed a 50 yard pass at the very end of the game. WE still would have won even if it went for a touchdown, but it is still quite dispiriting. We face a Dublin Vikings team that is better than their 1-5 record indicates, as they have had the most difficult schedule in the conference easily.
6. DrUnKiN LuNaTiCs Beer (LW 6):
They stay at 6th after a very good effort versus Berlin. Unfortunatly, even though the Beer really limited the Stormtrooper's offense and outgained them by a sizeable amount, they lost the turnover battle as their QB threw 4 picks which came back to haunt them. They get another chance at an undefeated team as they take on Rome, where they must take care of the football if they want to pull off the upset.
7. Dublin Fighting Irish (LW 8):
The game versus the Sidhe was closer than the score indicated, and their quarterbacks were able to have a pretty good completion percentage versus them, a difficult task indeed given their secordary, so they get bumped. They face the Dublin Shamrocks next door in a critical game that will determine who will get the winning record and who will get a losing record.
8. Dublin Shamrocks (LW 7): They had big problems on offense versus us and in general did not play as well against us as the Dublin Fighting Irish played against the Sidhe. Which team is truly better is be resolved this week.
The others
9. The Vatican Paladins
10. Tranmere Titans
11. BC Crew
12. Munich Hofbräuhaus
13. Dublin Vikings
14. Leeds Cougars
15. P-Ville Powerhouse
16. Camelot Crush
