I have absolutely NO success with it. If you go into the LB thread, we've been having a bit of a discussion on it. I have 3 points into it, and it's been nog good for me.
My strong impression is that you need special abilities to be high to see much of a benefit from them, but once they are high you notice a big difference. 3 in monster hit might not do much, but 8 might be incredible.
In other words, they require a big investment of points. But they pay off handsomely once you put the points in. Note that this also means you're better off picking one or two SAs (not trees, particular abilities) to raise and that raising a whole tree evenly is counter productive.
Yea, I would have to agree with that. From what I've been told by other players in this game, that is once you get a SA to around 5 or 6.. they start kicking in noticeably. And around 8 they start paying big big dividens. I'm only a level 23 LB right now, and I'm no where near 8 in any SA stat yet.
I posted about this on the main GLB Forum asking for opinions and it sounds like a lot of people think Monster Hit is useless even at higher levels, so caveat emptor. I generally like that we don't know exactly how things work in GLB, but it does make it difficult to determine if there are bugs. Maybe Monster Hit is bugged and not working? How would we ever know?
We wouldn't ever know until Bort or DD really found out that it was bugged. That's what makes this game so interesting though. Not having a direct path to success..
They are two different SAs. Monster Hit is supposed to be more effective but I have yet to see one person say they feel it did anything for them even with lots of levels of it.
The team I GMed last year was terrible. We had a LB that was well-below the level of the rest of the competition. His Monster Hit was at 5. He forced 8 fumbles. The closest guy to him in FFs in our league had 5. Our other starting linebackers outleveled him in all attributes, but not Monster Hit. And he played on wrap-up.
I had my Monster Hit at 5 before season 2 started. At the end of the season I didn't have a single FF. Still don't have one in season 3 yet either. Monster hit is a waste of points.
Originally posted by DavidD458 I've got big hit 3, monster hit 2, and 3 FF in 7 games.
Yeah, but there are guys with 0 big hit, 0 monster hit with 3 forced fumbles. The question is whether guys with big hit/monster hit cause more fumbles ON AVERAGE than guys without it. It's hard for us to tell without access to a large sample size, and asking for volunteers in a forum like this leads to problems with a biased sample.
The solution is for someone with access to the entire game's stats (i.e. Bort or other programmer) to statistically analyze the correlation between forced fumbles and points in monster hit. I suspect there isn't one and it is broken, but I have no way to prove it without access to more data.
ONe of our outside linebackers last year had 0 in monster hit until maybe 2/3 through the year. He eventually got it up to I think 4, and suddenly started popping the ball loose. Monster hit may not have been the reason for it, but it seemed like an odd coincidence.
Another linebacker on the team went heavy in Monster hit early and caused alot of fumbles early last year. About 2/3 of the way through ther year though his forced fumbles dropped off dramatically, which kind of makes me wonder if the bonus from Monster hit doesn't neccessarily overwhelm the opposition RB, but only adds a bit to the stats to determine if the fumble is caused.
In the end it's too difficult for us to know. There's too many variables. Strength, tackling, tactics, SA, maybe even speed? maybe confidence? Then there's carrying of the other guy, his strength, his SAs, his confidence... Only way would be, like Agent said, to have a done of data which we aren't privy to. It's not like I can see the stats of the guys that I forced fumbles on either, that could lead me to another conclusion. It could be their lack of carrying rather than my 3 points on big hit.
