Forum > Tournaments > Future GLB Tournaments - Bracket Creation Suggestion

GLB already does a great job of seeding teams in each age bracket through the use of Elite, Competitive, and Regular Leagues. It would be simple enough to write a bracket creation script based on what league each team is in.

Byes could be awarded to the teams in the higher tier leagues first as it is most likely that these teams would be able to beat the majority of the lower tier teams anyway. Additionally, if you were to seed the brackets in this manner, it would increase the amount of inter-league play.

By randomly seeding each bracket as is the current method, there are quite a few situations where teams from the same leagues are playing each other in early rounds. With this happening, lower tier teams are advancing further into the tournament than they might otherwise be capable of, while some higher tier teams are bumping each other out very early. It seems that this prevents each round from being progressively more competitive than the previous round, which IMO is the way a tournament should be.

The only level where this suggestion won't be effective is the Rookie age group because those leagues are unseeded. Even if the suggested method is used, it would be just as random as what is currently being done.

Regardless, the GLB sponsored tournaments are a lot of fun, and I appreciate all the hard work that the staff puts into them.

Thanks for your efforts.
