One week into the season and a few things are clear. Some of these new teams might just be good this season. Elephant is better than Lion when you take the conferences in from top to bottom. And Canton is still my frontrunner to win it all.
WEEK 2 RANKINGS
LION
1 Canton (1-0) - Will Canton make a run at 20-0 this season? They're off to a good start after taking down Guyana.
2 CWE (1-0) - Week 1 went as expected. Can they keep the momentum against a solid Uganda squad next week?
3 Philly Franklins (1-0) - Just utter domination of ECS. There won't be many teams that can hang with Canton this season and we'll know in one week if Philly is one of those teams.
4 Lincoln (1-0) - Shut down London for 3 quarters as they coasted to a 34-6 victory.
5 Somalia Pirates (1-0) - Solid shutout win but we don't know how good the 49ers are yet.
6 San Diego (1-0) - Nairobi who? Great showing by the AquaBats but was it more to do with Nairobi's current state? They get bumped 5 spots due more to the fact that everyone lost than anything else.
7 Uganda Silverbacks (0-1) - Tough loss to open the season but they put up a fight in the closing minutes of the game to pull within 7. Showed a lot of potential and reason to be optimistic this season.
8 Zambezi Silverbacks (0-1) - Tough loss after a missed XP in the last 2 minutes of the game cost them the tying score and a shot at the win.
9 Oklahoma Outlaws (0-1) - Aside from 2 4th quarter TDs, they weren't very competitive offensively. The defense was solid in holding RMT to 27 but not a great way to start off the season regardless.
10 Komodo Dragon (0-1) - Crushed in their first game of the season by another new team. Could be a rough season.
11 Hall of Heroes (0-1) - Sucks having to face off against a demoted WL team in your first Pro game of the season.
12 Guyana Punch (0-1) - Holding ICB to 23 isn't a bad way to start. Being shut out is though. I think this team has some promise – especially in Lion.
13 Texas Longhorns (0-1) - Tough draw in week 1 doesn't show us anything about this farm team.
14 Transylvania (0-1) - For 30 minutes it looked like they were going to be able to hang this season. Then the second half came around and ABD hung up 34 points on them.
15 Nile River Assassins (0-1) - So far no one's retiring. Offensively, they put up a stinker while their defense got shredded on the ground.
16 Port Arthur (0-1) - This CPU rostered team should not even be ranked.
ELEPHANT
1 BSSI (1-0) - Solid win. I don't know a thing about HoH but they put up a fight in the first half before BSSI squashed them in the second half.
2 Sons (1-0) - The scoreboard looks close but SoA was up by 17 points until Uganda scored 10 in the last 2 1/2 minutes of the game. Dominating defensive outing gets them a solid opening win.
3 TAP (1-0) - TAP is off to a great start after dominating the Longhorns. Can they do the same to top tier opponents? We'll see in a few weeks.
4 ICB (1-0) - Had some troubles against Guyana but still put up a shutout win.
5 Guyana (0-1) - Drawing Canton in week 1 is a bad way to start off the season and puts Guyana in an early hole. They've got the talent to dig out quickly but will the schedule help them out at all? I can't drop them just yet because I think this is where they belong still.
6 ABD (1-0) - A win's a win but it was scary for awhile there. Going into half time down 0-6 against a team you easily out level won't gain confidence points but that was a beautiful second half that partially redeemed them.
7 Warriors (1-0) - Expected win. Got win.
8 Nairobi (0-1) - Definitely not going to be a rehash of their 20-0 season...had to drop them some and still not sure where they belong but if they lose to Boston...
9 RMT (1-0) - The Thunder pick up the win in good fashion. Their defense stifled the Outlaws for over 3 quarters before they finally gave up a score. Not a dominating showing on the scoreboard but they took it easily.
10 A7 (1-0) - Took a commanding 24 point lead into half time and never looked back as they just pounded the ball at Nile's defense.
11 Ghana (1-0) - Got away with a good win over a solid APL vet. They can thank McAfee for missing the tying extra point.
12 Norfolk (1-0) - Don't know what the week 1 win says about this team but they dominated and that's all that matters right now.
13 London (0-1) - Lincoln is a pretty tough draw so maybe London has some potential. Unfortunately, Elephant is pretty solid from top to bottom so there won't be much room for error.
14 ECS (0-1) - I may have spoken too soon in week 1 rankings...
15 49ers (0-1) - Ouchie. Could be a lot of this the next 15 weeks.
16 Boston (0-1) - Big time stomping by CWE.
