In this play nobody tries to block the RDE. Is this a bug with the new DPC, the play worked fine with the old one last season.


Here's one with a play from the old DPC http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1521725&pbp_id=2536972. Notice the little "governor" Bort put on the DE. It's not there in the first play.

At some point, the LOT has to release from pass blocking to block for the FB. In this replay he takes his drop to form the pocket, but releases before the DE gets to him. If the play were modified so he released later, he'd end up behind the FB.

Also, I scouted your team to see more examples of this play, and so far this season, you've run it 40 times for 37 gains with only this one sack. I don't think you can say this play isn't working this season.

Not likely a bug.

Of course it's a bug. See the edit I just put in with the second play. See how the DE stops. If you think back, most screens ended up with sacks before Bort altered the way defenses can act on the play.

Almost forgot... go back and scout again.. see how many of those screens were against the old DPC and how many the new DPC, otherwise your observation is flawed.

The "governor" you're talking about is a chip block, and you're not guaranteed to get it every time.

Fair enough, but that works both ways. If you think this is an issue, we'll need more examples of it with the new DPC.

DE cuts quicker in the 1st replay. He goes underneath the OT. In the replay from last season, DE went too far up field. He got chip blocked on way to QB.

http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1521168&pbp_id=1392156 - same play. DE gets to the OT too fast to go underneath and gets held up. That's new DPC.

Providing more examples is going to be a bit of an issue with so few people changing over to the new DPC. Then if they aren't doing something obvious like stacking on the center or LB blitzing right off the O line, how do you know it's the New or Old DPC. Much more efficient to set up a quick test. To do otherwise would allow a possible bug to exist for possibly most or all of the season. Of course Bort doesn't really need to test it, he knows what the code does and would know instantly if he forgot to put the "governor" effect on the DE.

I also disagree that "so few people" are using the new DPC. We've already gotten a number of issues with the new DPC caught and corrected here. If this is an issue, especially given the strength of screen passes in last season's sim, we're going to hear about it.

The D play he shows is a different formation so the blocking rules codded in will be different. Stop looking for why it's anything and look at the facts available. The issue here isn't the QB being sacked or the play not working. The issue is the DE doesn't have the Governor effect.

Again, it's not a "governor". It's a chip block. And there's at least a vision check by the blocker involved. Not sure what other factors as well. Either way, you're not guaranteed to get it every time the screen is run. If the offensive player is never chip blocking in the new sim, we'd have an issue. But Rage's link shows that they will.

That was post I made with same exact issue in a different thread which was moved here. I was letting bugs mods know to contact team owner from my example if theyw ant access. Glad we both have examples of this one.
