I have been out of the game for a while and coming back. Just wondering if anyone has tried and had success with a zone blitzing scheme?

If by zone blitzing you mean dropping DL into zones, then it won't work in GLB until offensive linemen are able to be confused. Right now they aren't.

Im talking about dropping the RDE into the middle to help with slants while bringing the LDE, LOLB, and SS off the other edge.

I tried zone blitzing in a pee-wee game. I had some success, 6 sacks held team to 7 points with CPU players, but it doesn't really open up blitzing. The offensive linemen don't get confused, but what happens is the quarterback looks around more than once and can't seem to see an open receiver and holds on to the ball too long. Quarterbacks can't tell the difference between a CB and DT so if a defensive lineman happens to be standing in front of a receiver when a quarterback looks that way, he looks else where.
But I only tried it in pee-wee league, if you want to risk it in a higher league, go for it.

Edit:
Nope, I was wrong about that. So I guess what you propose would be possible.
im pretty sure that they take a stat hit the further they get from the LOS, so that may be why you thought that.

Or until underneath zone coverage becomes worthwhile...

Sounds about right
