I don't know if it's a bug but when looking over some plays noticed this anomaly, thought perhaps others might look and see what they think or if they have plays like this. It could be just the WR going for the ball when the QB threw it but why would the QB throw it outside the path for the play since he knows where the WR is supposed to go.

http://goallineblitz.com/images/plays/125.gif Is the design for strong flood for reference.

The normal routes look like this
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1372749&pbp_id=10958020 WR1 goes up and across the middle.

Here is the play in question
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1372749&pbp_id=10956711 WR1 streaks up the field.rather than making the turn.

I'm not usually watching specific routes to make sure they match up to the designs so i don't notice it, but this one just seemed odd. I can try to get the WR settings but pretty sure he's not playing creative route running if need be, but can creative route setting change a up and over to a streak? I thought it just gives the WR more leeway in their designed route.

I think this may just be a case of the QB throwing the ball before the WR makes the cut and throwing it deep. I'm pretty sure I've seen this before and I don't necessarily think it's a bug. Kind of like it actually. However, it may not be intended, so if there are any examples we can get, I'll send it up for a closer look.

It could be that the QB was throwing the current direction/speed of the WR and not the pattern. I looked through the plays we called this season and these are ones i found that the WR continued going down field rather than going to a turn for his pass.

http://www.goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1372765&pbp_id=9729442 Another example where the WR keeps going. This pass was very early in his route, before the turn which should happen around 7 yards down field from the LOS.

Though here's one where the WR acts just kind of oddly (more what i would attribute to creative route running)
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1372765&pbp_id=9733958

Another toss before he gets the chance to turn (he's even with WR3 so has another couple yards to go before his turn)

http://www.goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1372731&pbp_id=11581903 One more.

Still not sure whether it's a bug or not. It's probably just a matter of how QB's decide to throw. It appears that for the sim, QB throws are based solely on where the WR is going at the time of the pass, not where the pass says his route goes like you might have in "real life" football.

Now that I think about it, what are your QB settings? This is probably all this is. If he's set more to open man, he's obviously less interested in letting the route continue or complete.

should have been -80 for most or all of those replays. Though isn't that more to do with whether he'll consider throwing than whether he would throw it down field and make the WR stay in the same direction or where the WR should be?

I would think so, but it does make sense that if a guy is open, he'll throw it to where the guy is headed at that moment rather than where his route is eventually supposed to conclude.

I really don't know on this. I'll mark it likely a bug and let QA hash it out. I don't really think it's a bug, but who knows, maybe it's not intended at all.

I agree, but should that be happening is what I'm unsure about myself. I generally like that it happens and I think it's probably intended, but maybe the QB is should be throwing it right to where the receiver is and not the general direction of where he's heading? I mean, that creates difficulty in planning an offense I would think. In other words, you want to throw slants a lot because the safeties sit in wide and fairly deep zones, but your QB sees that the WR is open and throws it before he makes his cut leading him right into the safety's zone who then picks it off. See how that can get screwed up?

sounds like the function of the open man slider to me...

it was obviously a hot route ldo

but in all seriousness i wouldnt mind having one of the routes changed like the one in the replay esp against a blitz heavy team

I took a shot here. I don;t know if this is a bug or not, I think it might be something funny, but I'll go ahead and kick it up to QA for them to look at.

In my opinion, this isn't a bug. it is probably an unintended side effect of overriding routes. what i see happening is that the QB is supposed to target the HB first, which would give the WR1 time to run the route, and then cut to the inside. But, the QB actually targets the WR1 first, and right before the WR1 cuts, the QB throws it. given glb mechanics, he throws it right in front of where the WR is running, which is straight, since he threw it right before he cut.

if the qbs settings had been different and he had waited, the WR would have cut and he would have thrown it over the middle. its all about their current running direction when the qb releases the ball. i don't think i've ever seen a QB throw it, for example, in the spot the WR should be after the cut before he actually makes the cut. would be hard given the in place WR - leading mechanics and the fact that every wr makes a cut at a different speed.

not a bug.

I agree 100%

The ball is thrown where the WR is headed, and in a quick throw situation this could be perfectly normal. QB's/WRs are supposed to be on the same page and they look it here.

Not a bug.
