The dropoff between Zambia and Sahara isn't too significant...and then between Sahara and the Mighty Zulu Nation is only 3.7 pts...But it's a long way from West Virginia!

The Zombies played the MountainMen so it was a hard fought victory

^ I imagine w/l is the biggest factor in the ranking, that's why the three 4-0 teams are above everyone else.

Yeah, if favours teams that win big also. As (most points scored in a game - lowest points scored in a game) goes into the equation

Do you have the link to the spreadsheet for the power rankings? Seems like no one is doing it in Lion....

i made the spreadsheet myself.

also speaking of w/l and points scored, you see Salty Shellbacks are down below 2 or 3 teams with a worse record. Us Shellbacks can't score so we are down in the rankings.

If anyone wants the excel spreadsheet PM me I will send it off.

I did a slight alteration on the power rankings formula,

The deviation in scoring was slightly silly, Top Score - bottom score.. doesn't account for all the deviation, in fact it's going to become more laughable as time passes...

Instead I used the standard deviation which is the summation of (score-mean)^2 ..

The neat thing is the rankings came out extremely similar to yours, but the order didn't hold exactly to.. here's what I came up with using the alteration...

Team Power Rankings
Sahara 63.80
Zambia 63.78
Zimbabwe 59.22
West Virginia 43.97
Tripoli 43.02
Toros 38.91
West Nile 36.25
Salty 36.20
Charlie 34.80
Gambia 31.25
Morningside 26.74
Algeria 23.53
Burundi 21.37
Monterey 7.61
Ethiopian 2.16
Zulu 2.16

Without going into a statistics class lecture, using just two points of data to make generalizations about a data set (high and low scores) tells you nothing about all the in betweens, using a standard deviation or squaring that number (variance) is a better method to illustrate the dispersion in the data.

Using an alteration of the range (high score - low score), would be similar to using the mode (most frequent observation) to define the data's central tendency.

I used my own formula and this is what I came up with. I've used it before and it seems pretty solid and accurate.

Team Power Rankings
Tripoli 145.23
Sahara 00.00
Zambia 00.00
Zimbabwe 00.00
West Virginia 00.00
Toros 00.00
West Nile 00.00
Salty 00.00
Charlie 00.00
Gambia 00.00
Morningside 00.00
Algeria 00.00
Burundi 00.00
Monterey 0.00
Ethiopian 0.00
Zulu -45.56

I only made it thru 15 units of community college so it might have some holes. Let me know if you find any.

Victoruno...any chance of getting your power rankings in a stickied thread so that you can update them each match?

Like what they have in the Pro League forum
